Walking, Minority Report, Albums
Jul. 8th, 2002 03:43 amEver take the time to walk around the city at night? I did today, about 12km in total. I can't say for sure as Mapquest takes the express route path and as a pedestrian I can cut a few corners. I got to go to my favorite vista in Hamilton again too. Right on W5th at the edge of the escarpement. Some day I'll remember to bring a camera.
The nights are beautiful lately. I actually don't mind hot, sticky weather at all.
So the day and how it went. Spent most time, as usual, setting up the new house. Everything is pretty much in order aside from my room which I will be painting when Mom is away in NS for 10 days gawfing at jokes about roses and drinking Lady Grey Tea with her sisters on the south shore.
I feel really good about the new house, it's a definite seperation from where I was. There is, as always, a lot of opportunity at hand lately.
This evening I went for a few pints with Brendan (Steam Whistle, yum) at the Snoot and then headed out to see Minority Report. This movie has some fantastic messages about privacy, bio-tech and some neat futuristic haptic interfaces designed by Nokia. There was some sorta anti-product placement by The Gap specifically in one scene where Tom Cruise's character arrives to buy clothing. His entire consumer dossier is disclosed to the virtual sales person for a more customized and highly intrusive shopping experience. At least that's the way I interpreted as being pro-privacy and a bit of an anti-placement. The Gap really wouldn't want to be that invasive with it's customers, would it? I know I wouldn't appreciate that. But marketers have a propensity for shooting towards the lowest common denominator... I know I have strong view on the subjects addressed in the movie, so I'm sure my interpretations are rather biased.
Minority Report suffers from a few momments of shitty writing. The whole "But I didn't say anything about her drowning!" twist was very Hollywood cliché. But whatever, the rest of the film was fantastic.
Homebass.ca went out of business. That fucking sucks, guess I shoulda bought more records from them instead of just using them as a reference. Bought some new records.

![]() | Peace Orchestra: ResetDutch lazy beat sensation Peter Kruder of Kruder & Dorfmeister fame released a new remix compilation record under the Peace Orchestra pseudonym. It's tripped out as usual but more funky and a bit more fun than the self titled record , the one with the real band-aid on the cover.Hoorah for Downbeat. Maybe someday they'll release a new Kruder & Dorfmeister record? Please? |
![]() | DJ Shadow: The Private PressYup, the white kid that made it cool for other white kids like me to go crate digging for the perfect samples released a new record. Some purists say he ruined hip-hop and turntablism the same way Elvis and the Beatles ruined rock&roll.I suppose "ruin" is a pretty elastic term to some people. I haven't listened enough to this record, but I what I know right now is that it's good. Very good. |
