Libraries Fear Digital Lock-DownAs the pigs of the modern media cabal race for fatter profits through the most restrictive DRM technologies Librarians and Archivists are reminding us that in a civilized society we still employ Public Libraries to architect and preserve human memories.
Imagine a newspaper from 1886 in digital format locked down with very strong encryption. Now suppose that file format is out of date or not the best system for organizing information? As more media becomes digital we risk locking down materials and essentially turning them to dust far before their time. Thus the one huge advantage of storing things as information is negated: a virtual expiration date is created by copyright.
Fucking brilliant.
