I had a really nice weekend hanging out with friends in Toronto. Greg ([livejournal.com profile] plaidninja) puts it mostly succinctly:
I spent Saturday with Dave John and Brodie. We got drunk at Dave's then made a noble atempt at going to the Bars but we just ended up going back to Dave's to get more drunk and eat pizza. Fun.
I got to know Wayne ([livejournal.com profile] forest_gnome) a little better which was long over-due. Good guy who dealt with my hung-over rambling quite diplomatically!

Anybody know of any queer magazines/periodicals/websites that aren't completely image-centric or at least intelligent about image? I thinking like the gay nerve? Maybe the audience is too small? Although this is the internet and audiences are never too small..

Did rehearsal with the McMaster Student Orchestra today. It went 'cept "Colas et Colinette" which is taking it's place as the piece I loathe. There's always one in the bunch that you just don't connect with emotionally and has a lot of technical hoopla that's just a pain in the butt. Stupid weird modulations between D and Eb with funny counter rhythms to everybody else in the orchestra. With only three timid viola players this isn't a good thing. I really do appreciate Jen's ([livejournal.com profile] jenneferre) fantastic playing more and more. I was lucky to have shared a stand with her back in the day, the girl's a virtuoso. Seriously. Anyhow, the piece might come in time. Or I'll just hate it until we stop playing it.

Afterwards Crystal and I did some fantastic pumpkin spice carrot cake with a tastey but light cream cheese icing and double mochacinos at the Bean Bar. It may have been my mood but the cake was not just good but tastey enough to ask our waitress if they made it and I could get the recipe. Unfortunately they out-source their cakes and this particular one is seasonal. That's right, the baked good industry is now highly disaggregated and subject to seasonal fashion. I wonder when Gucci, Prada and Calvin Klein will start branding food? Tangent aside it was the perfect atmosphere and activity to end off a busy rehearsal on a windy fall evening.

Transferring downtown was interesting. As I've noted before the film industry loves Hamilton because it looks like the crappier parts of NYC with a little movie magic or Detroit without even trying and it's fuckin' CHEAP to shoot in. Well much to my suprise downtown was lit-up like daytime for the shooting of a production called.. oh christ, I can't even remember. So now my bus stop has starred in both X-men, Exit Wounds AND this new film. Between the queen visiting and recent derth of boringness it's almost as if Hamilton is a fun place to live!
