After a big weekend of being a shut-in at home I had a respectable and civilized day today. Started off with a pleasant breakie with the fam then watched Waking Life. Scored a ride with my brother Aaron into the T-dot (that's Toronto for the uninformed) to see Dave ([livejournal.com profile] cub4bear) perform as a member of Singing Out(!) with Gregina ([livejournal.com profile] plaidninja) and Joan ([livejournal.com profile] jgrizz) . I went last December and enjoyed it completely, there's something really neat about seeing so many mature gay and lesbian people come together for a nice civilized (there's that word again...) night of entertainment. As usual the singing was warm spirited and the mood was very light hearted which is characteristic of Singing Out I find. One distinct observation is that compared to the evening show the crowd in the afternoon is far more reserved although not cold. There were two standing ovations, one for what was a rather trite ballad consisting of a letter home from Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City set to song. Although the soloist was very accomplished the subject matter was just a little too GLBT-telethon-tearjerker for me to connect with. The other being of course at the endo of the performance and very well deserved, especially considering that most of the singers work day jobs.

Afterwards Dave very graciously treated us to the best buffet dinner I've had in a long time at everyone's favourite Hot House Café. There we had fantastic food, some great beer (must remember Grasshopper Wheat Ale) and the smoothest waiter for pushing drinks as Joan mentioned. I considered going record shopping/browsing but Gregina had to scoot to work and Joan wasn't up for it. This turned out to be a good thing because as soon as I got on the GO home I nodded off all the way to Burlington.

It was a really satisfying change of pace to watch a friend perform in a great concert and have delicious dinner with friends before returning to the grind that will be this week. I really regret shaving off my best beard ever as it really is the best thing to keep my face warm short of a balaclava in these fantastic sub-zero temperatures we're having.
