Here's a list of 7 tracks that are kicking my ass right now.
  1. LFO - Freak

Grab your joysticks and get your Zaxxon 'cause this is goin' ta make you freak. Freak hits like a bit storm from Elderon with Princess Leia working the TR-707 cowbell like it's her only hope. Tired retro fetishism aside this shit is just plain old fun.

    Good times.

  2. Lisa Carbon - Bossandfunk

Atom™ works his pseudonymous schtick once again. This time slathering big low resonant hip-hop off-beats along side some Bossa Nova guitar and percussion. Cheeky, cheezey and way danceable.

  3. Chris Clark - Empty the Bones of You

Ok, so it's an entire record and not a track. But it really ought to be considered one work because this record has flow. Stylistically there's lotsa winks and nods to other artists like Boards of Canada, Autechre and Astrobotnia. A lot of people write him off as an imitator but I have to disagree. Clark's work is as solid and engaging as his contemporaries. This record is his sophomore effort and very worthwhile. Check it out.

  4. Hellfish - Bring on the Hurrican Pain

Gabber/"Breakcore" + LL Cool J. Not everyone's cup of tea. I eat this shit up.

  5. Sloan - The Rest Of My Life

Holy shit, Sloan is on their 9th motherfuckingrecord now! Of which their latest "Action Pact" is the first that they've hired a producer (Tom Rothrock - Badly Drawn Boy, Beck). The result seems to be a far less irreverent and punky Sloan but one that still plays out in a way your parents could respect... ok, if your parents were Zepplin fans. Very radio friendly "The Rest Of My Life" jams out and rocks steady.

  6. Sigur Rós - Staralfur

() was all the rage about this time last year. You could buy that shit in Airports and Hospital gift shops. And it was as depressing as all get out... which given everyone's uncertain and terrorized Bush regime state-of-mnd wasn't really uncalled for. I mean fuck they had goth film princess extrordinaire Floria Sigismondi do the video for Vaka. This shit is dark.

However their preceeding record Ágætis Bryjun ("Good Start") is a tad sunnier and summer appropriate.

  7. The Music - The People

These guys look like little kids but sonically they are a tall glass of water. It's kinda as if the members of The Catherine Wheel only they went back in time and finally started to get the recognition they deserve...
