Friday, August 25 at the Pepper Jack Café local one-man mad looper Ryan Fergusson aka Electroluminescent opened for hype Montreal electro-punkers "Dutchess Says" as well as the legendary Damo Suzuki playing with various local musicians as The Damo Suzuki Network.

I got really drunk and, amongst other things, text messaged a lot of people. Here are some Dutchess Says tracks you should check out:

Also check out Electroluminescent's New Music Canada page. His music is neat but what's most impressive is that he builds it all up on stage with a looping pedal and other heaps of gear.

See, despite not really being crazy about Can particularly I still think Damo is pretty awesome. I mean how crazy into your art do you have to be to insist that you don't play with musicians but with "sound carriers" and it's not improvisation but "time and space creation"? That's really dedication. Too many people are too pussy to be pretentious these days. Everyone is so god damn down to earth and real. We need more Damo Suzukis.

So what you have is a big long set that sounds like an endless Tool song. And believe it or not this is pretty fun. You can psyche out with it for a while, go out on the patio or take a piss and come back right where you left off. The endless vibe still massaging various sensitive spots in most of our brain meats.

Now maybe it was the particular chemistry of the Hamilton Damo Suzuki Networkers but it made me realize how much Maynard Keenan rips off Damo's schtick. Or vice versa, I mean they're both kinda washed up now anyhow.
