Good Things Goin'
Oct. 17th, 2007 02:35 pmDespite movin' out of my hood and back to Mom's for the time being I've still got one foot in the shores of James St. North. This Thursday at 7PM at HIStory & HERitage will be the opening galla. The owner and I have the equipement and are finishing the information installation I helped design. I'm totally nerd jazzed about it. It's an array of 6 37" LCD HDTV panels running on 6 Mac Mini's running, at first, Keynote presentations. The content is neat, the gallery's prerogative is a gender neutral history of prominent Hamiltonians outlining the vast Victorian heritage of this town. I think it's pretty darn neat especially considering how many women built Hamilton into the place it was and the place it is today. All the research has been done by a local Historian. I'm really jazzed about local history becoming a part of the arts streetscape as opposed to relying on the venue of print for this sorta info.
I'm also spearheading a local photo bloggers group tentatively called AfterCity or MetaCity or something. It's going to be a Flickr usergroup that meets to teach one another how to organize and contribute photos to pools. One big problem with local events is that they end up on FaceBook which is a closed system of organization based on people. Not places, events or any other context. It makes the librarian in me a little sad. So the idea here is to get people to standardize on pools and even a loose taxonomy. Also an explaination of Creative Commons licensing.
