My First Radiohead Concert
Aug. 16th, 2008 02:31 pmSee I'm so indie I shit bands you've never heard of. And that's probably for the best because a lot of them really suck. And usually know they kinda suck and that's the fun in it all. Sometimes you see amazing shows for $5 (Arcade Fire, Death From Above, Islands) in a crowd of like 200 people or less.
Anyhow I trekked on the GO Train with Yasmine, Marija and friends to see Radio Head with opener Grizzly Bear at the Molson Amphitheatre. The shows were really fantastic however the Grizzly Bear set was basically rained out. Radiohead came on right after the rain. Their set was amazing, great visuals and fantastic sound. I really enjoyed it.
But I really have trouble dealing with huge venues aside from all day or weekend festivals. I hate that whole cattle grate sensation. And then you get to your seat and some bitch wants to "trade" because you're tall and somebody else tall is in her seat and whatever. Then you look around and there's a buncha really square looking asian kids who are NOT moving and definitely not interested in blowing a J with you.
Then you smoke a cigarette on your way to the bathroom and get called out by the security dude who is clearly the top jock as he is at the booth by the exit to the annex/concession/bathroom area. He gets his rocks off explaining that we are 10' from the exit of the overhanging structure 50m in the air and therefore violating smoking bylaw. So we continue for another 5m as we were before he stopped us to explain this.
But I could really deal without all the lining up, pushing left, pushing right, relentless chiding from renta-cops and general herding around to see Radio Head. I mean honestly, is the irony lost here on people? Everyone had the same Radio Head shirts on using their Rogers Mobile phones to get in the concert through another gate "quicker" gate. It was just this very odd thing.
