Finally opened myself a new account with CIBC. I was leary, my last bank was RBC which totally sucked. They kept trying to sell me on services that, as a mostly-student, I don't really need. The CIBC was great though, Voulva (my personal bank representative) even beamed her info with her palm into mine in addition to giving me her card. Neato! My monthly services are only $4/mo for lots of perks like over-draft protection, lotsa transactions and phone and internet banking. Woo, a good banking experience. A first for me.

So I decided to go The Beat Goes On, the local new/used CD shop to test out my little bit of plastic freedom. Picked up The Lo-Fidelity Allstars - How to overerate on a blown mind ($9) and Tetsu Inoue - Waterloo Terminal ($12). Two good finds I must say. I sorta owed the Lo-Fi's album as I've had an enjoyed all the MP3's for a while. Same vein as underworld, and I love underworld I do I do. I was most hyped about the Tetsu Inoue album, but much to my disappointment there was some generic rock album in the case instead! AGH! I'll go tomorrow and sort it out. Still, for $24 I scored two great albums, tentatively :P.

Yuck, much to do tomorrow. I think I might have my computer fixed soon, it's seeming more likely the new power supply I bought was a lemon and/or incompatible with my old(er) Asus Slot-A board.

Gosh I'm tired, that means I'll be up to 3AM. Ugh.

I've been with CIBC since 1998 and I've never looked back. Many years ago I started with RBC, then moved to Canada Trust, and finally to Scotiabank when I moved to Ottawa for school.

I switched to CIBC because Scotiabank totally messed up transferring my accounts down, refused to give me a loan saying I was a risk, etc. All bull. CIBC were great.

I don't know anyone who's had ScotiaBank and didn't think they were awful.

To be honest, I don't know how they stay in business.

Congrats! It is good to find a decent bank. I think no organization can be as maddening and abusive as a bank. As much as I may rail about Internet providers or software companies they are but rank amateurs at customer abuse when compared to banks.

I finally settled on a nice small credit union.

I wish you would get/go on icq again, so that when we are both up until 3 am we can at least be talking.

I hate paying bank fees. In Boston there have been so many bank mergers with rising fees compared to our old plans. It really annoys me when the old bank was fine for my needs, and this new bank comes in and says "You will have better service, and we will charge you more per month". That's total bull! I am now with a small community bank where I have free checking, free online banking and free ATMs. They may not be making any money off me now, but when I need a loan or mortgage I know where i'll be going.

and another thing

It really irks me when banks give you 1% interest and the monthly fees suck that right up a few times over. Thanks you're the best. They shouldn't even bother. :) /rant

(I could avoid fees at the larger banks if I kept a minimum balance, but I can't afford that right now with all the bills i'm paying off)
