Jan. 19th, 2002 12:26 pmUgh, the most frustrating time today at rehearsal. Those kids aren't getting the compound time in Tchaik's Symphony #5 (12/8). You'd think by the 8th grade they'd know how to factor fractions, but apparently not. Luckily I was able to focus on my two darling Violas today. Which is lucky for my as it seems the Violin I's want to play the tune (if anybody knows it) like a solo from Lion or White Snake. Think super huge guitar noises. Henceforth the 10 minute lecture on piano dolce vs. piano twisted sister was fun to administer.
I think I'd like teaching as I can bullshit the best stories whiles still giving them the facts.
Oh, the frustating part, right. As I was conducting my cute little sectional in the hall I was bitched out by Jesus Sr. that there's a wedding going on and we'd better "get out of there". When I inquired as to how soon it'd be (being 10:00AM, who gets married at 10AM?) he said "Soon enough" with a snear and lazer eyes that popped out screaming "scat heathen". We had 2 bars left!
Now, I wouldn't have a problem with this at all if it wasn't for the fact that the church we rehearse at has been giving us flack for the last year. We pay rent for our Saturday mornings there that are fund-raised by the orchestra by the parents, it's a public school system program that's constantly being cut. We originally had three rooms to conduct sectionals in, now we just have the one. Not because the others are in use. Oh no. They gave us excuses like "Oh, you can't go in there. We painted it and want to keep it nice" or my favorite "we're trying to make this place less dumpy" (?!). You know those school kids practicing to play string instruments, they attract hookers and dealers like ninety. They honestly think the kids are going to ruin the place. But it's dandy when their congregation's children run ramp there. I don't want to get too hypothetical, but considering it's a public school and there's a lot of kids of different races.. well, one can imagine what motivations really stipulate us so unfairly.
Gotta love those good chrisitans, practicing their faith by screwing a non-profit and cash strapped public school system program out of space to rehearse. Truth be known, we'd have somewhere to be in the many public schools but cut backs to education don't permit us to as, get this, they can't hire a janitor to clean up after us! That's the only reason. Fuckin' lame.
I don't vote Tory, if that was ever in doubt.
