Tin There has to be my most favorite underworld song ever. It's everything I like about "rave music". Not the fashion†, definitly not the drugs or the trainspotters. It's the pure polyrhythmic push that brings on the adrenaline and endorphine rush that you get from letting your body and your imagination fly.

Some people have a hard time surrendering to "the vibe", it can be tough as I know well as anyone how much self-consciousness gets in the way. It's rough being the biggest guy on the dance floor, but I've often been told I have good moves "For like a big dude." Which is completely flattering. Not like I'm ursus majorus or anything, but I'm mosdef not a rail twink. It's totally cliché to say that once you do surrender and let loose things "get totally like tribal man". But it's a human thing to do, I'm sure everyone rocks out in the shower. I know I do every morning, it's part of my ritual. I sing (rather poorly) through a few songs on Econoline Crush's "The Devil You Know" or Mathew Good Band "Beautiful Midnight". Pretty lame eh? I fucking love it!

Pastel fun fur was never cool, although I admit to having a green fun fur dress shirt. I'm sorry. But I gotta admit, it is warm.

A dissenting opinion on fun fur....sort of.

LOL! Oh Greg.

But seriously sad that otherwise nice girls have to go to a rave all cracked out on various letters of the alphabet to be that friendly.

LOL. OK, Seumas's "Myass" sign was the funniest thing I'd seen all day...until I read this.

E, heroin, wine or weed? House, metal, baroque or emo? Generally scenesters do drugs, it's a fact. What's important is to appreciate the music as it is, and although the choice of drug varies so does the inspiration every genre can provide an open mind.

Man, I'm preachy tonight.

Erm ...

Oh sure! I rock out in the shower all the time. Usually to Fugazi though. :)

And hey--I have ADD... :p

As far as raves go... this is strictly opinion here, but it's basically an excuse for people to get cracked out enough to dress like a birthday party clown and pass out while listening to house or trance. If I'm gonna do that I'd rather pass out from alcohol and be listening to rock. :p

Although I must admit I'm a fan of several unusually-innovative DJ's. And I used to frequently go to raves until I decided I was "over them"...

Oh honey, don't let those generalizations fly too much. They're unbecoming of a lady.

And I used to frequently go to raves until I decided I was "over them"...

That's 'cause Raves are over and have been for a long, long time. Seriously, there's no urban place in the world that doesn't have legislation that clamps down on large after-hours gatherings. As electronic music is popularizing the real good stuff (ie. unusually-innovative DJ's) is happening in small clubs and legal parties that usually licensed for alcomahol. Meaning, unless I'm mistaken, you'll have to wait until you're 21 in Maine to legally enjoy them.

Not that I'm not a fan of rock'n'roll. I rock out with my cock out all the time, but there's more to this world than just guitars. Lots more.

raves and whatever

""""After writing this I feel the need to include this disclaimer: ALL THIS IS TRUE EXCEPT WHEN I'm IN TORONTO."""""

I generally agree with people being cracked out at rave but there places to go and not see so much of that. I grew up partywise in the early transitional period of partying . When I first started going it was slowly getting larger and larger. I was around during some great techno. I also realize that I was definately a partier at the peak of e consumption but things have fizzled out and died since then.

Unless I'm in toronto where it's easier to have party favors delievered to your door :P than liqour; I don't really participate in recreational letter consumption. In Mass and KC I don't see as many cracked out folk. Not to say that theree are none. More people are their to listen to music and hang out with friends. It's defiantely not as 'open' either and that's directly related to less consumption of pills.
Argh. I really don't explain myself when it comes to raves because i don't think anyone undersands because most of the people I explain stuff to don't party. There are more things to raves than drugs and that's always been the reason why I go. That's the reason why I danced in front of the speaker for 3 hours last night listening to some great techno in a small, packed, hot as fuck bar in downtown cambridge.
So anyway..I'm a raver.
