Apr. 3rd, 2002 07:21 pmWhat a bunch of bullshit.
"We're sorry but we want you to buy a new scanner because we know our market is saturated." Honestly, parallel port printers work just fine in Windows XP. It's not that MS doesn't want to support the interface. It's so obvious that UMAX wants people to buy new scanners.
I also find it very amusing that they quote the speed of an orignal XT parallel port (150kbps) as opposed to EPP/ECP that most anything that's shipped since easily 1995 has used.
I've been ripped off by UMAX and Microsoft! They're not even offering a rebate! I think I'll submit this to /., they can make some juicey pro-open source propaganda out of it ;) Who knows, maybe I'll get a freakin' scanner that works!!

Date: 2002-04-03 05:54 pm (UTC)I think that oscillating menu is designed only to subliminally program a belief in their customers that they're NOT being ripped off. That some how unsupporting a product is a valid business practice.
It's happened before, it'll happen a million times more. The computer industry is so fucked up.

Date: 2002-04-04 06:36 am (UTC)Plugs into a USB adapter and works FINE... but Wacom has decided that they're going to specifically avoid allowing their drivers to SEE tablets connected this way. I have two $450 tablets that are worthless now.
I wonder how much more money we'd all have if companies stopped fucking us over.
