Terrible service economy
Apr. 19th, 2002 10:07 pmSo my fantastic plan to make time for family kinda back-fired today. After rehearsal we went to Kelsey's for dinner. Now it's the same company that both Montana's and Outback Steakhouse are operated by. I've had good experiences with the Outback but for the most part Montana's and Kelsey's in this city continues to more than suck but be offensive.
Now when I go out to eat I usually do it because I'm hungry, tired and stressed out. The last two time's I went to Montana's and this time going to Kelsey's I've only left with MORE STRESS. It took them 30mins to get our drinks to us! At that point we just got up and left, I really hate to do that to the kids running that restaurant 'cause working in service sucks. Their manager was nowhere to be found so we told the girl doing reservations why we were leaving.
It just burns me so much that family of three is about to lay down $70 on a tab we can't get as much as three iced teas! It's because people are complacent with this complete lack of service. Maybe they're under the impression that the owners of each franchise aren't making scads of cash hand-over-fist. But they are and I'm pretty sure that it's implicitly agreed that when you pay that kinda price part of it goes towards service. The food is cheap, the service is poorly paid and sparse. Everybody minus perhaps the manager is making minimum wage. So we didn't take it tonight. We went around the corner, got Wendy's take out and returned home and watched Law & Order.
I think it's the kind of people who live in the burbs of Hamilton. While it's pretty elitist, let's not kid ourselves that these people generally (operative word) don't know much better. Or more importantly don't expect much better for their money. Pretty much any restaurant of the same Calibur in Toronto costs about the same (sometimes even less!) and delivers MUCH better food and service. Time's I've been to the Hothouse Café with Dave, Greg and others our tabs have been about the same for fantastic food and service as the time I had the worlds SHITTIEST 12oz steak at Montana's. I think I journaled about that but I'll be darned if I can find it.
Yeah, so a life lesson is learned: know your restaurants. Don't return if they sucked. Tell the manager why they sucked and if they don't do anything SLANDER THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF THEM TO YOUR FRIENDS.
That is all.
