Rehearsal for WHS was dandy, the little string quartet we're putting together for the recital is going well. I really enjoy being able to coach that sorta thing, I think I have a lot to express and I'm glad to be working with Colleen, Natalie and Hanna. They're great players and have fantastic attitude.

The church was having a rummage sale during our rehearsal so afterwards I took a look around. Got a cute little tiny Baby ATX sized 386SX with a 14" VGA monitor in really good condition for $25. I'm gonna throw on the network and log into as a cute little linux box to play with/abuse. Also raided the record collections that were there. A lot of Babs records.. I really have no desire to own those. BUT somebody had a flair for Tijuanian jazz! Pay dirt! There's bound to be some fantastic sampling material on them, and hey, for $2 for six records can you go wrong?!

I've put together some summer mix CDs that I'm gonna be distributing. Here's the tentative working titles:
  1. Dude, that is so gay - Mostly house music ;) with a few curve balls
  2. MOTHERFUCKINGFAGGOTS: Can rock and roll - Metal, alt and hard rock
  3. Ambient clicks and whirrs - IDM/Electronic mix
  4. Channel™ and Champaign - Chilled out Jazz/Electro/Turntable mix
That is all. I'll post the track lists once I give them a few listens.

Wow, I'll be interested to know how the linux install goes. My first thought is that a 386 probably has a 40MB hard drive, and 640K-1MB of RAM. I'm also not sure when IDE came about, so I don't know if any of the components will be easily replacable with modern stuff. It'll be kind of challenging and cool to get it to work in such limitations. Good luck!

Yeah, and it's a 386SX, meaning no FPU co-processor. That's gonna make compiling kernels take real long if it's at all possible with the latest stuff. I doubt it, but I have some way-old slackware distros that'll likely do the trick. Really I'll be a happy boy if I can get apache, php, mysql and perl running in perfect harmony. Thanks for the vote of luck.

Certainly! I'm going about re-organizing and backing them all up lately (about 600mb-1gb of samples now). When I do I'll provide you with some FTP access if you'd like?
