Autobots, "alienators" and Digimon
Apr. 27th, 2002 12:03 pmOk, so for the first saturday morning in ages I got to stay home and watch cartoons .Now, lemme explain my situation. I've pretty much for-gone watching cartoons for about a decade now. I've always had some sort of music commitment on saturday mornings.
Umm, holy shit things have changed. It's a whole universe of super-targeted marketing! There's also some cool stuff value-wise such as education. A lot of the lead characters are Doctors or Scientists or both. More often then not women are potrayed as strong characters who are equal or more than their male counter-parts. And most importantly EVERY character is significantly designed to be easily translated into toy form. Not that this is a new phenominon.. but the sheer and thorough execution of this I think has definitely "improved".
Oh and the new Transformers cartoon blows horny goats. It shoots really low, audience wise. We're talking 5-9 years of age. The dialog is truly hilarious, using the Decepticons as an example:
Ok, not that I'm expecting Saturday morning cartoons to be some sort of progressive artform. No way, the audiences always grow up and new ones are always born. But it's really neat to come back to them for a while.
And they are still really entertaining.

Haha, now that I've captured x I can achieve y through z. Good thing we have new product to defeat the Autobots!Of course conversely the Autobots still embody all things egalitarian in a less-than-vaguely homoerotic brotherhood.

Date: 2002-04-29 12:12 am (UTC)However my reason for posting is to compliment you on your taste in music! :) Way to go ... you're one of a very few people I've come across who like Kruder and Dorfmeister (and their off-shoots such as Tosca) :)
