The White Stripes - Fell In Love With A Girl
Tab by Matt Frear matt@smashing-pumpkins.com

It's all power chords

VERSE 1
B A
fell in love with a girl
D E
fell in love once and almost completely
B A
she's in love with the world
         D E
but sometimes these feelings can be so misleading

VERSE 2
F# A
she turns and says "are you alright?"
          D E
I said "I must be fine cause my heart's still beating"
F# A
"come and kiss me by the riverside,
F#
bobby says it fine he don't consider it cheating"

3
red hair with a curl
mellow roll for the flavor and the eyes for peeping
can't keep away from the girl
these two sides of my brain need to have a meeting

4
can't think of anything to do
yeah my left brain knows that all love is fleeting
she's just looking for something new
yeah i said it once before but it bears repeating now

ah ah ah ah ...

repeat verse 4

repeat verse 1, 2

ah ah ah ah ...

repeat verse 4 then (B)

THAT's what the line that ends with "cheating" says! Thanks, for some reason I couldn;t make it out.

But it bears repeating

Can't keep away from this song! It's #12, side B of my friend Steven's Best of 2001 tape and I've had it in my tape machine in the car since March. I hadn't been able to make out all the lyrics myself -- thanks for this, they're quietly brilliant. It's not really a punk song but it's got this great gritty punk aesthetic. And the video is Grand Cinema!

For months down here in the Mid-Atlantic, we couldn't talk about ANYTHING else except the the Strokes, the White Stripes, and the Hives, in that order. The Stripes showed up in a review on NPR, on bloody Morning Edition.! I haven't decide whether thats the kiss of death or just turns the corner and becomes Baudrillated.

What did you think of the album?

I think White Blood Cells is brilliant. Every song definitely has it's rock and punk reference points but I think the unique thing about White Blood Cells is the creation less a retro sound but an amalgamate of sounds. It's achieved through excellent song writing of course but also I think because less attention is turned to production that the focus is a little more directed. That's where the punk rawk vibe really shines through. Punk has of course become this strange bastard child of rock all it's own in the last two decades. The two seem hardly related frankly. The recent resurgence in rock seems to be more renaissence than retro.

Fucking Rock!
