I'm pretty sure video games are going to become an even bigger part of our culture in the future. I'm not sure what this means in the long run.

But in the short term it means there's gonna be a renaissence of Electro/Synth Pop in clubs! Or at least seems to be.

bands like Adult. and Trans Am.... The re-emergence could also be attributed to the heavy electro sounds of most pop and pop-hop (yukky!) songs (Grind-Ing!). Electro in detroit, where i'm from, never died. It just took a nap. I'm glad that groups like Adult, Dopplereffeckt, and Le' Car have kept it new and interesting while the old guard, like Aux 88 and Underground Resistance keep the roots strong.

Now is ze time on Schprockets ven ve dance

Part of the retro eighties thing, neh?

*sigh* when will people rediscover Karheinz Stockhausen and Lejaren Hiller? When, when?

Really?

Cos' the last 20 games I've played are trying to get as far from synth as possible. Mario Sunshine's got a full bossa-nova thing going on with live instrumentation, the new Contra's filled with speed metal, Grand Theft Auto used real pop hits (and a lot of fake ones)...

Are you talking about the resurgence of 80's and early 90's game synth into music?

Yeah, that's really what I meant. These new-fangled games don't really exist to me. Since I stopped playing video-games (sometime late in Highschool) I feel kinda alienated from most of them. Exceptions being Quake and Unreal really. They're just so slick, I prefer the nostalgia of NES days long past.

The Gameboy Advance is sorta intriguing, basically being a portable SNES...

I really miss the SNES days (and yeah, the GBA is a perfect solution to retro nostalgia). In a lot of ways gaming's never been better than it is now, though. The maturity and complexity of what's out there is truly astounding. Play something like Deus Ex and you'll see what I'm talking about. Unfortunately, the downside is that games are getting realistic enough to show us just how emotionally retarded a lot of it really is. Mario Sunshine's a perfect example. Somehow the dumb plots worked in 2D... but the latest adventure is pretty embarrassing to play through in parts.

OH MY GOD BECKY

Speaking of....

. . . I *just* walked in the door from a night out on the town. There is a music festival going on all over PDX this (past) weekend. I just wrapped up the night at that 1AM set of "Indian House".

I felt like I was trapped in a video game. So, your thread could not of been more appropriate.

Over .... I kinda had to sit on the sidelines... it was either 150BPM or 100. But every now and again a funky breaky tune would pop in and I would go ballistic.

The second to last blip was an Indian Darude remade. ............ Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahha. oh my god.

All night long I had this uncontrolable urge to giggle with my mouth over my hand... and get shake my money maker.

Too bad there wern't more people. .. it was really kinda fun.
