So all the hipsters are talking about The Electroclash Movement like it's gonna fulfill their Andy Warhol fantasties. Not that I don't have any.. like that time I showed up to a party with in banana suit with a "peel here" sticker on the zipper. Oh those were good times... but alas I digress.

Therefore in characteristic curmudgeon fashion let me be the first lambast the trend you proabably haven't yet heard of

*note: I really say "Fuck electroclash" in that punk-rawk build-it-up-tear-it-down fashion. I quite like Electro and would love seeing the renaisence. It's just that it's been branded since day 1. Always a bad thing. It'd be nice to see a movement in culture that isn't immediately contrived into The Next Big Thing For Making Scads of CASH.

Fact: The next Kylie, Madonna, J-lo and whoeverthefuckelse single has a 90% chance of being retro-electro influenced. I guarantee it.

Oh, might I also mention how lame it is that Moonshine records, purveyors of fine d&b for the suburbs, is releasing a record called "Electro Nouveau" on the 21st. Not unlike the groundbreaking record "Disco Nouveau" from Ghostly International. It's sad because Moonshine has more capital thanks to boring acts like DJ "the same Amen break on every record and available at a k-mart near you" Dara. I really out to research which particular likely executive hipster motherfucker coined the term "Electroclash"...

When I work the bugs out of the line of robotic pleasure drones I've been developing I'm using "FUCK ELECTROGASH" as my advertising slogan.

Yeah, have to agree with you there. An particular amusement for me was seeing a chic new line of punk clothing on sale at Le Chateau.. umm.. kind of against the point guys.

you know, not all of the electroclash music is that bad, but it's the electro clash people (electroclashers?) that fucking piss me off. I went to this electroclash club with my friend earlier tonight and it was alright, i mean electroclash hour after hour is just a bit redundant after a while.

anyway, my point, there are these fucking hipster-chic fucks dancing on stage (if you can call it dancing) they were doing some cracked out form of the Robot. I wanted to slap each and every one of them. Another thing, is another part of the electroclash movement that you have to look bored and dis-interested all the while dancing? WTF?

I know another group of people who act the same way, the Indie Rockers and i fucking can't stand them either. One if these people would take the stick shoved up they're trendy little asses, they might start to have some fun, which is what kind of embodied 80's music to begin with, that bouncy happy jump around music. Granted, electroclash seems to be a bit more melodramatic from time to time, but hey, so did some 80's.

I think there is one word that can summarize why i don't like the majority of this new hipster movement: Pretentious.

God these people act like it's a fucking crime to have fun while dancing at a club. Let's remove heads from sphincters, get a personality and we'll go from there.

80s music? Bouncy & happy?

80s pop was about Irony. And Goths. And sometimes about Tearing Down The System. And always about obscene amounts of money.

i wasn't discussing the content of the music, simply the sound.

of course there were the Smiths, Siouxie and the Banshees, the Cure, Sisters of Mercy, the Cult, Bauhaus, Fields of the Nephilem, Joy Division, Soft Cell, The Glove, Christian Death, Skinny Puppy, and London After Midnight. To name a few, if we're talking about the goth aspect of the 80's.

i admit, my wording of the point i was trying to make wasn't chosen very well, but that is what i meant, about the sound more than content. I also realize that part of the eighties was about being bored and apathetic. IF there were a reason the Electroclashers looked bored and apathetic other than being complete posers who can't come up with anything original or interesting, then fine. But they don't.

and i'll also say that i'm not trying to summarize the music of a decade, because thats near impossible.

And not to be contrary, but i doubt Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" was about irony, tearing down the system or obscene amounts of money. Let alone, The Bangles, WHAM!, Bananarama, Erasure, Duran Duran, The Normal, Toni Basil, Missing Persons, The Go-Go's, or Sigue Sigue Sputnik.

but you know.... i could be wrong.... oreo

That's soo true... and Madonna. Let's not forget Madonna. And Frankie Goes To Hollywood. And Spandau Ballet. OK, you win :)

lol, well i don't think it was about "winning" anything, i was actually hoping you weren't mad at me or anything, usually when i debate about something with someone they get really pissed off and tell me to fuck off, and i'm like.... ummm... hey... i thought we were just debating.... not fighting to the death.... damnit!

hehe, anyways, good times, good times.
