OK, personally? The "Apple=Canada" makes me feel dirty. I mean really, really unclean, in that oozing-syphilis-pustule-posing-as-a-beauty-mark-on-the-cheek-of-a-geriatric-twelve-dollar-hooker kind of way.
That's exactly what I did!!! In August 2001 I bought my iBook, and then in November 2001 I moved to Toronto from Philadelphia. Life is better north of the border, and the Canadaian money is real purty. :)
You've gotta be kidding. Spend a good dozen hours figuring out Mom's iMac. Does it have the latest system software update? Is the firmware updated? What about the modem firmware?
And with such helpful Apple support like this (http://kbase.info.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/kbase.woa/wa/query?dialogID=&val=imac+firmware+update&type=smartSearch&nodes=&dateModified=&wosid=a2jN8AUoYwRn2cJ4w364jG6lxol), you've gotta wonder how parents around the world are maintaining their iMacs.
uh. ugh. maybe. My parents had it on, but it didn't help their nasty 'The Network Time server could not update the time error message'.
It may work for a newer product like the cube (which I lust for), but older, three year old products like the Bondi iMac seem to be left on the side of the road... and Apple's so confused right now that it seems like the best option it seems is to buy a new Dell than a new iMac.
The admin at work is finding her G4 Cube absolutely fine and she's only been using it a week and has no idea what she's doing. :) I guess in this case "admin" means "administrative assistant" as opposed to "system administrator". ;-)

Date: 2002-11-12 08:52 pm (UTC)Macs are NOT the easiest machines to administer. If I had a nickel for every phantom OS 9 and OSX problem I've ever had to deal with...

Also, the only thing I can contribute to the "learning French" response from a previous poster:
AU SECOURS! AU SECOURS!
AU VOLEUR!
Appeez la police!
