Ya see, the only thing people are looking for in a picture of a potential mate is perfect symetry and desireable scale. The simplest aspects of artistic composition reign supreme in attraction. It's a powerful ally in public approval, former US President Bill Clinton had an exceptionally symetrical face. Our minds are at their most basic when judging these aspects, we have computers that function just as well if not faster.

I long for perfect symmetry

did you see that special TLC did a while back about (and titled) the Human Face? hosted by John Cleese (sp?) and Liz Hurley, they discussed the symmetry and proportions, even made a mask by taking that pleasing ratio and turning it into a number of triangles arranged to fit the contours of the human face....not surprisingly, the mask fit perfectly on "beautiful" faces and less well on not-so-beautiful ones...

there's a companion book, and the special's been released on DVD

feh..

i remember newsweek did a cover story on beauty way way way back. i think i was in high school. along with symmetry, it showed the features on both sexes considered to be most desirable. for men, this included a cleft chin, high cheek bones, and a strong chin. this had something to do with our biological need to reproduce as much as possible and the ability of your partner to be a good provider.

i find if all so fascinating. so amazing how genes and chance play such a major role in something that can inevitably rule our lives.

by the way, i don't think you have anything to worry about ;)
