My SSRI makes me really sleepy. But I'm perky when I'm awake!

Well, not to be too persnickety, but you mentioned Effexor- and Effexor is not an SSRI, its a norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake inhibitor.

I did way too much research when I was blue.

Yeah, you're correct but it's commonly grouped with SSRI's in most literature I've read unlike Remeron and Wellbutrim.

Have you noticed effects kicking in right away?

I'm told it's not possible but I definitely feel a euphoric state followed by tiredness and then I even out.

Otherwise I feel great!

talk with your therapist about the sleepy side effect if it are so strong, probably he could change if for another from other brand. (I changed it TREE times)

I was talking with daviddutton about this:

http://www.psyweb.com/Drughtm/xanax.html

Xanax is the commercial name of a particular brand, the alplazolam is the component.

I hope that it helps you.

Thanks, for the time being I'm waiting for the drug I'm currently on to have some effect and then I return to the Doctor's in two weeks to discuss alternatives or finalize my treatment barring those results.
