Sunday was good fun. I went out with Paul [livejournal.com profile] zer0ith and ended up in Guelph to help my friend Martin's finacé Lindsey buy a Palm. We ended up with a Clié SJ30 which has a high-res colour screen and came in at just under $300CAD. I got to spend some time with the couple-to-be (*barf* and I know they'd hurl at the phrase too), had some Indian food and walked around downtown Guelph which is quite pretty. *Ahem* and I quote:
"The City of Guelph is a vibrant community of over 100,000 people located in the heart of southern Ontario, just 100km west of Toronto. With one of the premier research universities, and a diverse variety of manufacturing, service, and high technology enterprises, it's also one of the fastest growing economic regions in Canada."
Right now I'd sell my kingdom for a digital camera that didn't stink, but it's not in the books for a while.

This Wednesday is the first night of "Futur*Sonic" at The Underground. Microbunny of King Cobb Steelie fame will be headlining as well as Inclination and Slo-Fi Spirit Wave whom I have no idea about. For a $5 cover with a free CD it sounds like a plan to me.

Shaved my head today! Below is the obligatory ego gratification.

Ha!

I've been to Guelph. It was a nice place. I never would have imagined that 100,000 people lived there. Seemed much too small-town-y.

Thing is there's a lot of suburbs being built up around Guelph now. So I suppose including the university 100k seems maybe possible. It's a very round statistic. I don't trust round numbers, they're shifty.

Were you there taking pictures or something?

Ayup. I was travelling with a band in the fall of 2000. After playing through a bunch of northern states over to Michigan, we swung up north and drove through Canada from Guelph all the way to the eastern shore.

It was a great trip. It also made me realize that the people who think of Canada as just an extension to the US are really quite ignorant. I enjoyed the entire trip, but particularly Toronto and Montreal. If I ever had job prospects there, I would go without a second thought.

I love the way that those blurbs that little Ontario towns and cities put out ALWAYS sound exactly the same:

"The City of [name] is a vibrant community of over [population] people located in the heart of southern Ontario, just [distance] km [east|north|west] of Toronto. [With/Close to] one of the premier [research|medical|undergraduate] universities, and a diverse variety of manufacturing, service, and high technology enterprises, it's also one of the fastest growing economic regions in Canada."

I don't know if I'd call Guelph vibrant...part of its charm is that its so layed back and friendly..just about the right size for me.

Uhm...that's all good and fine that everyone wants to shave their hair and look all butch..just don't expect me to do it ;-)
