FUTUR*SONIC
Jul. 10th, 2003 01:27 amWell, I am impressed. It's so neat to see little old Hamilton start to develop a big city music scene with a variety of artists and styles.
Met up with the post-highschool crew and had beer and wings at Herman's then dragged Brendan off to Futursonic for the premier night. Missed Slo-fi Spirit Wave and Inclination but Microbunny were incredible! They're a four piece with guitars/keys, vocals, bass and drums. All the players were incredible slathering abstracts with aplomb AND competence. Such a nice relief from the self-conscious chain-smoking-fashion-punk-rock-comme-hardcore tripe I've grown accustomed to in this city.
Also of note was the crowd and nature of the night. Very few smokers, very laid back and the performances were done by midnight so everyone could all get home at a decent hour. I feel like I'm really amongst my people here. There's an appreciation of diverse music as well as a sense of responsibility and maturity. Oh and Microbunny's drummer is way cute... and talented!
I'm considering getting involved either writing for the zine or possibly performing at an upcomming show. It's time.
