With Love and Dignity
Jul. 24th, 2003 01:59 pmI arrived late with my mom and brother to the animal hospital with smoker in his blue blanket. When he was well he would have never allowed such physical constraint for any period of time. But he just sat in my arms without much emotion at all. No fear in his eyes as he lay on the table. The injection was administered and by the time it's contents were drained his heart had stopped and his head fell slowly next to his out stretched paw, eyes open as if in a movie. I left him in the examination room on his favourite blue blanket but not before looking into his eyes one last time and petting him on his neck where he liked it best.
I feel like shit knowing that he's gone and never coming back but I'm glad that he won't waste away any further. I saw him leave this world with the dignity and love that he deserves.
