So far I quite like it here. The air in the highlands of Scotland is clear and clean. There are woods, rivers, mountains, castles and monuments everywhere in addition to Starbucks, The Gap, Borders and various other brands we north americans like to take with us. Whether we openly admit it or not. Inverness is definitely pretty ideal a place to live in Scotland as it's very touristy and far north enough that there's ample space to roam around.

I've secured the job at the McMafia and seem to get on with my co-workers real well at first exposure. I have an orientation on Monday and begin soonafter. I'm yet to get my documentation for National Insurance together however I will hopefully have that in order before the end of the weekend. That has my stomach in a bit of a knot however I'm assured that it's not an issue. I'm looking the most forward to getting to work, meeting people and generally moving forward. Until then I'm here at the flat reading the copy of Fast Food Nation I'd bought the other day.I figure if I'm going to be a storm trooper for the darkside I'd best learn what we're all about. I've also been absolutely tearing through the copy of Tales of the City that Greg had given to me. It's been setting a lot of the tone of my trip.

The weather has turned characteristically Scotish from unusually warm and sunny when I first arrived. Although it seems to be exactly on par with the conditions in Southern Ontario... so I'm not missing much.

This weekend my cousin Emma is coming over from Glasgow to visit her family here and (assumedly) meet me. She's just secured her first full time teaching position and the plan is to celebrate. Hopefully we'll go to the pub Saturday night 'cause I'm absolutely itching to cut loose a bit.

I'm glad to hear that the provincial government in Ontario has switched hands from the American Colonialists Progressive Conservatives to a Liberal government. Although the impression I get is that most people are now kicking themselves for not voting NDP while they had the change. Oh well, at least the "left" wasn't split again.

Been spending most of my time today just tidying up, getting things in order and generally settling in.

This is awesome. Cos' it's like you're right here, only you're, like, in Scotland. Oh wait, you were in Toronto before, right? For some reason I thought you lived over by the In n' Out Burger on Sunset.

I'll mail you some. Do you want a double double, or do you just want animal-style?

Fast Food Nation totally cemented my firm belief that Fast Food is the anti-christ of culinary circles. Never again shall I nibble on McDonald's wonderful fries (which aren't vegetarian).

Perhaps a McHaggus could sway my thoughts?

I don't know if you're going to have a ton of fun working at McDonald's but I have a feeling it would be a hoot to work with you. You'll have all these Scottish people walking to the counter..saying "you're not from around here" in various degrees of brogue :0)

That's precisely what I'm depending on! Thing is that there are so many tourists here I don't really stick out too much...

Well Brodie, I imagine that it is very nice, So great to experience this world and to see another Continent. Even better if you already found a job, and if you are open to grab the experience like a sponge in clear water ! Everything is new, every person, every building, every scent and sound, cool !

Everything I know about Scotland comes from movies with Ewen MacGregor or Robert Carlyle in them.
