Took a health day today. I woke up with my leg that's been feeling progressively worse feeling as if it wasn't going to take 10hrs of running around so I called in sick. Now I'm trying to rationalize that I'm not dogging work 'cause I'm really good at that. Infact part of this trip is about my taking responsibility for myself and actually dealing with real-world consequences. In this case I'll be down a day's pay but I honestly could not go in today without feeling like shit and possibly hurting myself or somebody else in the process.

Now that I've got some proper rest and been able to get my domestic situation a little more in order I feel good about going back tomorrow. Does that seem reasonable?

Sounds right to me! I did something similar on Friday.
Feel better soon :)

You played hookey. Life will go on.
However I would like to point out there's a difference between working hard and destroying yourself. Tone it down a little. Neither you nor your employer wants you to miss work cause you're in too much pain or freaking out from stress, so do everyone involved a favor and take care of yourself. Rationalizing hurting yourself, now that would be a bad idea.

Sick Days

I would personally think about it this way. You have been there (what 3 weeks?) to have called in sick is not that big a deal. I mean yes i know your saying to yourself that its too early for me to be doing this, but really if you stop and think about it, would it have been better that you stayed at home and rested up? or gone to work and ended up slipping on a bun that you were too lazy to pick up 30 seconds ago and having to suffer cronic back pain the rest of your life?

Its okay to call in sick every once and a while. As long as you dont make a habbit of it, and when you are sick you stay home sick (and not go out like some of us have done in the past in a vein attempt to play hookey from work). I really see nothing wrong with what you did.

It is ok, you didn't slack, if you take that time to rest your leg, work at home or arrange papers or stuff, then you gain something. As long as you don't take that time to watch TV and eat chips with a coke. We can leave that to an adolescent. Cool thing that you move to help you better your life. Changes are always good
