A Truly Canadian Apology to the USA...

On behalf of Canadians everywhere I'd like to offer an apology to the United States of America. We haven't been getting along very well recently and for that, I am truly sorry.
I'm sorry we called George Bush a moron. He is a moron but it wasn't nice of us to point it out. If it's any consolation, the fact that he's a moron shouldn't reflect poorly on the people of America. After all it's not like you actually elected him.
I'm sorry about our softwood lumber. Just because we have more trees than you doesn't give us the right to sell you lumber that's cheaper and better than your own.
I'm sorry we beat you in Olympic hockey. In our defense I guess our excuse would be that our team was much, much, much, much better than yours.
I'm sorry we burnt down your White House during the war of 1812. I notice you've rebuilt it! It's very nice.
I'm sorry about your beer. I know we had nothing to do with your beer but we feel your pain.
I'm sorry about our waffling on Iraq. I mean, when you're going up against a crazed dictator, you want to have your
friends by your side. I realize it took more than two years before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone knew he had weapons.
And finally on behalf of all Canadians, I'm sorry that we're constantly apologizing for things in a passive-aggressive way, which is really a thinly veiled criticism. I sincerely hope that you're not upset over this. We've seen what you do to countries you get upset with.
Thank you.

Date: 2003-12-05 12:28 pm (UTC)Canada the Great
Date: 2003-12-05 01:14 pm (UTC)The only reason I haven't emigrated is that all of Canada has snow and temperatures the regularly drop well below 50 deg./f. I admit there are areas that have little snow, but then there is the cold rain.
I live in San Francisco, and right now it is raining and chilly (54 deg./f)...but in the 15 years I've been here, It has never snowed...not even flurries. The next best spot in the world would be Ventura CA...would that *I* had the money
and the guts to just pick up, and move there. My next favourite places are Tucson and Palm Springs...I can deal with heat,
but not cold.
I am 59 years old and unable to afford basic health insurance I gross $1600/mo. If I were in Canada, I wouldn't have
to worry about basic medical coverage. Yes, this country sucks big time. We certainly aren't a Republican Democracy, we are more like an oligarchy...with the corporate rich at the top. Maybe I should just to Tucson, build a hut and become a eremitic Monk...

Ahem….You’re from Tucson, so I don’t have to tell you about the weather there. I know AZ does get snow and, at Fiesta at couple of years back, it actually got below 45 deg./f. w/ flurries. But that is exception rather than the rule. OTOH it does get hot during the summer. Heat I can deal with…but degrees below 40? Not on your life!
Any snow that lasts more than flurries send me running. I admit that Tucson and Palm Springs would be my third choice, it certainly beats
rare that it lasts more than a day.** *Chuckles*
If I stay in California, San Francisco will definitely be out. Its too damp, and too expensive. Within California I would first consider Ventura.
Median Temperature is 74 deg./f. It does get rain in the month of March as well as fog during the same month. It does have earthquakes occasionally and if there were a massive Tsunami Ventura would be soup. 80% of the days are completely sunny and there has been no snow in the last 200 years.
Admittedly, the no insurance scares me, but the weather is so important as I get older…right now my arthritis is killing me…shifts in barometric pressure is rough.

Date: 2003-12-06 05:00 pm (UTC)I find it very funny and I don't take offense.
If some people in the U.S. can't laugh at themselves,
someone else will and perhaps do a better job.
Also, it certainly doesn't hurt to have friends, acquaintances and (by marriage) relatives in Canada and be about (not a boot!!!) a just an hour away from the border.
Thanks for the repost.
