British Internet Woes
Dec. 10th, 2003 05:10 pmMy DSL provider here in Inverness is PPPoA using an ISDN B-channel and internal modem. After being on an external DOCSIS cable modem connected to a router all configured by DHCP in firmware, well, this DSL package seems really weak. The only thing I dis-like more than unnecessary internal hardware is esoteric hardware. I have an internal ISDN/DSL modem because? On top of that it's a Creative piece of hardware whom are notoriously aggressive at cutting costs for unnecessary things like support except for their most popular bits of hardware. As a result I've had some weirdness with DNS and the generally ill-supported configuration of the DSL access.
I bought a .co.uk domain nearly a week ago and after filing two support tickets with my host have finally come to some resolution that the transfer of the domain to their DNS servers did indeed fail. Despite my telling them over and over again that it had by merely looking at my WHOIS information. The best part is that the whole process was automated on their behalf. This does not bode well for the quality of the service.
