Most banks I've delt with in Canada require you to have a line of credit to use Visa or Mastercard. You can use it for debit/chequing but you still have to have the credit line. I just have online debit capability by default here which rules.
Here you can just open a checking account at a large bank, and they give you a debit card with those logos, and they are accepted like a credit card.
Holy crap, this is the ONLY progressive thing going on here. I swear, if something happens to my family, Canada here I come. That's actually a hard promise to make because of the short growing season (I gotta grow things, you know), but you can't know how much I hate George Bush and how much I don't understand his followers and how sad I am that they are dragging down this country. I mean that with all of my heart.
If you're feeling bored, mind digging up your terms of service for this and sending me a copy? I've heard some interesting things about liability for debit and credit cards in Europe.
