So, like, I'm all officially British now and will have a British passport in addition to my Canadian one by Christmas day. Still in Glasgow doing some Christmas shoppig. Trying to resist buying cheap over priced retro crap from Urban Outfitters for my family. But I like it all so much.

There is a Vancouver Muffin Co. in Glasgow, who knew?

My collection of £30 t-shirts is already much larger than I'd like it to be but who can resist a "Start Wars" t-shirt? I'LL TELL YOU WHO! I CAN!

I have to get going soon and meet Dad for lunch.

there are faxes greeting me

So there's room to meet and greet"

>>£30 t-shirts

Ack! The cost of living really is so much higher there!

Well, that's the price for a really groovy designer shirt. But yeah, generally it is expensive here. Although I also make lot more money than I would doing the same thing in Canada. Purely perceptually speaking the quality of life seems similar or greater in Scotland.

Take him to Nice N Sleazy for lunch. At least he can then say he had lunch where Mogwai did their "Rock Action" photo shoot. Sorry... I'm just fanatic. Good vegan food and great records on the juke box :-)

sniff You'll always be an illegal alien to me. Oh well, now you can leave the UK with reasonable assurance of reentry.

oy, Urban Outfitters...

they've got some nice stuff, but the image of that place is just so.....faux...pseudo-hip. coolness for sale to sorority girls and Ambercrombie boys/bois.

ok, i'll stop being an elitist prick now.

Eh, fuck it dude. I like the shit at Urban Outfitters too. I buy what looks good and is reasonably priced. I buy most of my clothes at thrift stores anyway....am I a hipster...or am I just a poor college grad??

How do you decide which passport to use? "I feel British today?"

Legally you have to produce both or one and suitable ID from the other nation I believe.

My understanding is that when entering either of your countries of dual nationality that you always use the passport of the country you are entering: e.g., when you return to Canada you would use your Canadian passport but when subsequently returning to the UK you would use your British passport.

Drew from Bear Towers mentioned he has to follow this procedure as well (his passports are U.S. and Canadian). Is the same true in your case?

Actually no. As a tri-national (Canuck, Oirish/EU and Yankee), laws on carrying multiple passports vary. Widely. And where you're going also factors in when decided which one to flash that hunky customs agent. Generally you should show the passport of the country you are entering.

If you need a visa to enter a third-party country, and/or you fill out an entry form of some sort, you should leave the country with that same passport. A lot of countries track entries and exits, and showing a different passport when you depart (even on a tourist visa/entry permit) sends red flags galore.

I have a residency permit for Australia, but often fly there via the States. So I:
+give my Canuck passport to the airlines at check-in (my Ozzie visa's in there)
+show my US passport to the US immigration blokes at YVR
+show the Canuck passport when boarding the flight (airlines often match their own records)
+show the Canuck passport when I enter or leave Australia
+show my US passport to the US immigration blokes at LAX/SFO/HNL
+show my Canuck passport to the Canuck immigration blokes at YVR

But being multinational is waaay kewl. Welcome in da club!
