I've had a recent revelation. Despite fearing for the safety and well-being of friends and loved ones I have this admission to make: I would not be suprised or upset to see the Republicans win the 2004 US Federal Election. Maybe then unemployment can reach 7, 8 maybe 9%? The dollar can become thoroughly cannibalized and maybe then the US Federal debt can reach 10 trillion? Wars aren't cheap, after all.

Then perhaps, when the effect of radical economic and social fundamentalism is really felt by Joe American, can a more conservative movement start making better lives for Christians and non-Christians alike.

I think the effect that government has on the economy is usually negative. Bush's big government conservativism disturbs me.

I'm not sure what you mean by economic fundamentalism. Bush's economic agenda is pure corporate statism not too terribly different than Clinton's. It's certainly not capitalism. It is destructive though.

I was playing with the semantics calling it economic fundamentalism because corporate statism implies a sort intolerance of alternatives. I'm no Clinton fan either, that bastard introduced the DMCA to guarantee lining the pockets of already mega-rich copyright holders well into the 21st century.

But this really comes as no suprise as I usually play the role of condescending middle-class Canadian.

Well...

I would not be suprised either, but I would be upset to see the Republicans win.

It's not going to take all 4 years of the next term for them to do more damage if they win. Unfortunately I think a lot of the problems Americans will face in the future will be based on their ignorance and intolerance.

It's the cute little ears that do it for me, personally.

Feel free to come on down and live in the US should the Republicans win the election and enjoy the transition as it happens. You can have a front row seat for the social revolution, and hopefully get all of your rights back!

Oh, no. I know why you are secretly hoping this:

Once the Republicans cause the virtual collapse of the US, you Canadians will sweep in and all our base are belong to you. J00 want to 0wn us.

Aha! I have figured out your nefarious plot!

...and I offer fealty to my soon-to-be new Canadian masters.

May I fluff for you?

Er. Seriously. Your last paragraph is NOT the thing I wanted to read first thing on a Saturday morning.....brrr.

You're probably right.

A friend of mine has another solution: Get Canadia to join the United States. The change would add 20 Senators to the Senate and probably 20 or so Congresspeople to the House. And you guys think that Liberal Democrats in the US are pretty conservative, so the Legislature would totally rock.

And to balance the budget, I have often suggested selling Los Angeles to China. China has the money and we Northeren Californians hate Los Angeles and are tired of selling it our water. So. . . sell it to the Chinese. Or maybe the Russians. They want those warm-water ports, eh?

If you don't know how bad it can get, how could you judge how good it could be? We'll see what happens...

It always seems to come back to the same thing, doesn't it? Ya gotta break a few eggs...

there is no way to go back to a decent quality of life for the average american overnight... it's going to take a painful climb back... I don't envy EITHER government that has to succeed bush...

As an aside, I was at a lecture this week by a guy who spent the last six months with a coalition in the Middle East basically watching the erection of the Israeli wall around the occupied territories... that shit is the scariest thing to happen in a long time.

You're right...

Bush is going to be re-elected. The economy is already improving in a major way; the Dow Jones is now over 10,000 ( an important number in many ways).

None of the current democratic candiates are viable candidates. Despite Al Gore's support for the supposedly leader of the pack: it won't mean a hill of beans.

Amazing ain't it? During one of the most protracted economic booms in our country's history: Al Gore couldn't win election. Yah yah yah, that Florida thing screwed things up. BUT the truth of the matter is: Gore should had won his own state or Clinton's state; and none of the bull in Florida would had mattered.

SO let me sob along with you: I fear another four years of the republicans and what they will do to our judicary. *SOOOOOOOOBS and leans on the NFo's sexy shoulders and weeps*

:D

bush gets a bump in the polls every time something good happens, but after a week or two his numbers go right back down. if the democrats don't COMPLETELY screw up the 2004 election (that's a BIG if, admittedly) they might actually get the white house back.

of course, they'll probably pull osama out of a hat right before the election and win in a landslide.

Yup, it's a big ol' majority dictatorship spiced with a big dose of media illiteracy and mis-information.
