Work sucks even more now. They've given me part-time hours due to the "queit spell" which really means that superior competition has opened up all over (the?) High Street since the beginning of the year. So what is management doing about our pathetic sales? No, not a new promotion or menu change (McDonalds UK still has the old school menu without the Yogurt Parfait or salads). Why coming down on their already over-worked employees to increase efficiency of course! Jesusfuckingchrist, everyone is already meeting unreasonable expectations being chronically under-staffed even when the restaurant is making obscene amounts of money.

My boss is such a fucking Excel chimp it makes me want to slap him. Basically if he can manipulate the numbers right it must be practical to execute! And of course the corporation loves him because he operates the store on next to nothing compared to the former franchisee.

Oh and here's an interesting bit about eating Chez McDo's frequently (link courtesy [livejournal.com profile] bcbud). Doesn't seem to off the wall really. You should see the crap we cook.

I believe I will be quitting work February 12th. It's the closest payday to my birthday and would make a fabulous present to myself. Then Dad plans to take vacation time and take me somewhere sunny before returning to Canada. Pretty much limited to a) a good deal and b) somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere. Hong Kong is cheap due to the effect of SARS on the tourism industry but I'm told it's a bit of a boring place. I can imagine considering that it's really just a nexus for business and not really a place of too much indigenous anything. But the price is definitely right and I could always see for myself. Otherwise I've got a few other ideas.

Frankly I'm kinda all traveled out right now and just want to go home. But as an alternative to grease pimping I'll take it.

Not a bad deal, eh?

Upon returning home I need to go to the Board of Education and get a placement evaluation done so they know where to place me such that I can "achieve my educational goals". Which is a step up from the previous system of "troll through our byzantine website you deadbeat highschool drop out!" but we'll see how it goes. I really want to be in a classroom with a real teacher. They keep pushing online/distance learning which I've tried. It doesn't work for me, I need to be engaged and structured to learn effectively. Otherwise I find myself distracted with all the other more interesting things I'd rather be doing like playing music, reading books and so forth. Maybe I'm mature and disciplined enough to do that now? I don't know but I'd rather not take the chance.

Interestingly enough the IDM scene in Hamilton is as strong as ever since my absence. Futur*sonic is still going on and more and more good acts are coming to perform at The UG. I've got scores of cute drum sequences that I think I will use to do a Electro-Dance Pop thing next chance I get. A sort of Giorgio Moroder/Aleck Stark thing with a bit less cheese and a lot more love. Love seems to be in fashion again, I'm down with it. No big artistic statement, just something I can do practically and easily with what I've got back home.

And now to the grease pit. Ahhh, friday night. That's when the kids get drunk and harass me!

If you are really going to go somewhere as far as asia for some warmth I can recommend Hong Kong or Thailand. I only spent 3 days in Hong Kong and it wasn't nearly long enough. Its a question of what you find interesting though. Hong Kong is cool because it is a super futuristic city rising out of a jungle. It was very beautiful and I felt like I was in a sci fi movie a lot. I seriously doubt it has anything like a progressive music or club scene though.
No matter how cheap Hong Kong is right now, I doubt it is as cheep as Bangkok. This is more of a slightly outdated city where there used to be a jungle. Lots of interesting things to look at though, and killer good food. If you were looking for something music oriented you could check out one of the full moon parties, although I have to imagine you would need to ditch your dad for.

All that said, wouldn't it be easier to just head for the south of Europe?

I hear what you are saying about distance learning. Ive paid money for online classes and keep meaning to take them...month after month...

I heard about the MCDonald's story on the news this morning. Ughhh. The sad thing is, by this afternoon I had to talk myself out of McDonalds for dinner. Rice, carrots and celery instead. Go me!
If you haven't seen it already, today's Dork Tower follows a similar vein :)

music seen at most of the clubs in HK are either pop or mainstreamish techno, maybe a bit more obscure stuff at some of them though. Usually at any given time you can find a few cool acts visiting from Britain, if your into the electronic scene anyway.

And ahh if your there during the right lunar phase they have full moon parties in hk too (but you need to take a ferry ride to the outlying islands for that, pretty fun but a good way to get fired from your esl teaching job...)and obviously not something they do in the big urban centers.

I know there is some kind of gay scene there (don't know two much about, but there's at least a couple of gay clubs there, and rice bar occasionally has free drinks for shirtless men).

Though from talking to my former co-workers who vaccationed in Thai-land it sounds like Thai-land is definatly the better of the two parties. Don't know how in the hole hk is from Sars, but just a bit before the outbreak Thailand was a way cheaper place to be then Hongkong, though certainly a place you have to watch your wallet a little more carefully.

That bit of travel recomendation aside, just keep sane and plug away at Mchell, only a couple more weeks till quiting time right?

I hate to be picky, but Hong Kong's not in the Southern Hemisphere.

Queensland, however, is. And if you want warm weather and great beaches, you can't beat Queensland.

And I just checked expedia.co.uk, and flights to Brisbane (or even Sydney) are about the same price as flights to Thailand. (Though more expensive than Hong Kong.)

Aaaagh, somebody save me ! I had a MacExtra last week, ...tell me I am not going to die! (How stupid I am, I won't die because I just have MacDo's every once in a while, ...like 4 times a year. And For Coke I hate it and just had it twice a year) Call me a freak, but I like to nourrish myself well, which is different from eating a lot. May the class dismiss now, thank you.
