Gays and Their Big Macs
Mar. 3rd, 2004 01:56 pmI've read some fucked up opinions about McDonald's changing their menu and phasing out Super Sizing in the next year.
Somehow this is a quesiton of freedom, you see. It's not McDonald's plummeting sales that are driving a total over haul of their business. No, it's those bastards abusing the legal system with their peity complaints! Like an epidemic of obesity and heart disease. I mean who do they think they are abusing the legal systems with those concerns?
Damn activist judges.
Whatever girls, you have so little public regulation of health policy over the private sector that this is how shit is done in your country. The only public recourse is the courts in many cases, if only to spread awareness.
The apparent sea change in American eating habbits is not unlike the push towards fair marriage rights. Of course people's opinions seem to vary differently from topic to topic. Down to the heart of the matter these are both changes in peoples perspecitves. Not some insiduous and miasmatic evil force looking to turn everyone into a gay married big mac fiend.
Nope, courts are an integral part of a free society, despite what a certain president might seem to think. And despite the courts ruling in favour of the McDonalds Corporation it's still those wacky activists that have denied me my GOD GIVEN RIGHT to super sized fries?
Whatever, it's 2004 and about time to exchange the tired Free Society speech for something that's applicable to burgers and fries. Fact of the matter is that people don't want absurd portions or at least that's the trend. Companies predict trends and alter their business to follow them all the time. In essence that also helps them to have a degree of cultural control. When they move in positive directions like towards healthy eating it's only cause for celebration.

Date: 2004-03-03 01:07 pm (UTC)shyeah whatever. we all have eaten at McD's at some point or another. and will again.
what troubles me is the pricing. i'm betting you'll soon be getting "regular" size fries and a drink for the same price as the "supersize". and of course, it's most costly (and er.. embarrasing?) to order two cups of fries.
and i want my fucking supersize milkshake dammit. every now and then during the summer it sure hits the spot.

Date: 2004-03-03 07:47 pm (UTC)What Bush tends to forget is that the Judiciary is the third branch of government. As the head of the Executive branch and with the approval of the Legislative branch, he does appoint judges however it's wrong for him to assume that they and all judges are beholden to him and his constituency.

Date: 2004-03-03 08:43 pm (UTC)People thought Pasta was a great food, and Ronco sold thousands of pasta makers, now you can't find a carb in some people's homes.
So surprise, people find that they don't want the large portions anymore, and there's reaction from businesses.
The wheel goes round and round...
