It began in a school with a simple masking making contest. It took place along these railroad tracks in a coal miner's cart. The very last american indians demo was playing on the system, it was rap. 'Til we came to this foot path that everyone was calling The Dead Cat. And then.. My job was to carry this big t-shirt box full of important hats for this dream girl that I would later wake and masterbate to.

A good ways into the path blocking my way was this table with these abandon encyclopedia and I stopped to go through them. And then out of the corner of my eye I saw a dead cat. But it was just a wet rat.

And then I woke up. Wait wait wait...

And then I woke up.

Def Jux, Anti-con, Eastern Devs., Lex and more too.
Winamp 5.0 or iTunes suggested for best performance.

Naw just a little public graffic aggitation at St. George Station on the Bloor subway line in Toronto. I was there with my camera to capture the, um, genius.

I don't tag public property.

Listening now... Buck 65's "463" remix would've been in my next comp too... now I don't know :-)

Thanks for this shotcast... long live Intelligent Hip Hop!

It's funny. The video version of 463 on the Buck record in Canada is lots different. I think whomever was funding the video wanted something a bit more MTV ready unfortnatley. Lots more guitars in that version which is cool but, fuck, I dunno I just get pissed off that people are that stubborn that they NEED to hear those same old sounds or else they close their ears.

Oh yeah... that's his new single. A cheesy hard-rock version of 463 that came out earlier this month as a single with some unreleased tracks (El Dorado and Out of Focus and a live song.

I guess that's the deal he had with Warner (the price to pay about being signed to a major). I guess it's not that bad.

The iPod image reminds me of some graffiti I photographed in San Francisco on a Summer trip in '99.

I recall it was an ad for some internet service or cel phone deal, at a bus stop. It featured a black & white photo Bruce Willis holding his baby, with the question: "What excites Bruce?"

In marker, over the baby's face, was written: "PCP/angel dust".

Go Bruce!

So much personality and significance attributed to a handy little hard drive with an mp3 decoder! My my my!

I wonder if people defaced pictures of Mr. Coffee... you know... back in the day?

For $59 I can brew my own beans in a pot dammit! Where do they get off charging that much for a heating element and a water tube?? Those bastards will never dominate the world while those of us with real percolators have anything to say about it!!

*marching back and forth in mock scandalized horror*

That's a great idea:
Someone should make Mr. Coffee ads with silhouetted figures rocking out with trendy, portable coffee makers that fit in your pocket and have an IV drip or something. twitch.. twitch.

I moreso thought of the image as the iPod conveying the word "bullshit" as it was clearly written on the screen. Whereas if it said bullshit with an arrow pointing to the iPod it'd be a completely different message.

I think if Mr. Coffee had huge ads all over subway stations like this people would be tempting. You sound vaguely like you're regurgitating some Steve Jobs dogma. Like the pleebs who are subjected to giant Apple ads are just angry that we can't afford one and therefore lash out in malice. Really everyone loves them! No, I think that logic is pretty fucked. Maybe it IS a statement on consumer classism?

Power to the have-nots I say.

Oh heck no, I'm just really amused by the amount of opinion generated by this handy but *very* rudimentary gadget. I mean, it's a hard drive, a battery, and a moderatley-spiffy mp3 decoder. The opinion and controversy is what Apple *wants* to generate - but I'm amazed how well it's working. The whole "selling a lifestyle" thing is really hard to do anymore - people have seen it all before. They're riding the hype masterfully, if you step back and appreciate it from a "I know what they're doing and I'm analyzing it, not being taken in by it" perspective.

Though I suppose there are people who wear them like some kind of badge of honor. But these would probably be the same people who brag about their salaries, houses, and the type of cars they drive... and... well, fuck them anyway :)

It's just a "thing" in the end. It's a handy thing, but that's about it. Hence the coffee maker comparison. Or the Walkman. Or the Cell Phone. Eventually everyone will have one, they'll be disposably-cheap, and nobody will care that much about them anymore.

Allow me to add that my iPod (received as a gift (- no way would I/could I pay 1.5 month's rent on a glorified walkman)) accompanies me with different headphones... so no one knows it's one of "those".
I've never experienced the cultish nods that people give each other when they see each other's white earbuds.

I use mine in the car, and occasionally to listen to audio books in bed.

That's about it...

So, wanna explain your point? I still couldn't have afforded an iPod.

irrelevant

I've always wondered about that usage - "masturbated to". Why not, for, in front of, using, with, by? Is it like "I dance to the music"? Which would make sense ... porn as a kind of performance meant to stimulate and accompany an activity.

I think I'd choose masturbate with because it kinda implies that you're not just thinking of gratifying yourself. Even though you are. But it's got that subtle nuance.
