Gah, I finally figured out what all the Kompakt stuff is hard to mix. It's all 4/4 timed but in 3/4 phrases which is hard because most house records have like 16/32 bar intros... but it can be done. Just gotta find common factors that phrase right and bingo. It's still a toughie and beat matching is hard. The 3/4 waltz effect is really different though. To a lot of people who are used to straight up 4/4 house music it sounds like your trainwrecking but of course it's really just syncopated in an atypical way for dance music.

Those crazy Germans.

Thanks! I was actually kinda making fun of the hat because all those trucker caps are so tired. Every kid in the mall is wearing them these days.

...Fitty [per]cent Bayern-Deutsch here...

Why not experiment with off beat rhythms and take it from there?

Oh I have but I'm trying to work within the constraints of house and techno. I mean if I were trying to be all arhythmic I'd just play an IDM set, which is fun, but does not active most booties. I'm trying to accomplish more than experimentation at this juncture.

Though I've never heard anything from Kompakt...I totally got what you just said. I've had that problem with some songs before as well. Hooray for djs. We are cool. That's what the kids at the mall tell me! *hugz*

Kompakt is fun. The label is full of really nihilistic German kids who take music super seriously.

Hey Brodie!

(It's been a while huh?)

What up?

I can't even begin to gauge the scope of profound impact German Neu House has had on my life in the last few years.

For me personally, I think it all started with Donna Regina and Barbara Morgenstern and then just snowballed into something of a mania.

After I heard a Wolfsheim song....(or more accurately a "Schiller Mot Happner" song..."The Dream I had of You" when I was at an Industrial club last year? That was it...Game OVER. I was Prague all over again. I publicly denounced my Norse heritage and fully embraced the long ignored 30 percent my Germanic roots.

If anything goes wrong with closing on my house in the next three weeks...It is my intention to fully divest myself of worldly possession and reinvent myself in Cologne.

(it might help if I actually Spoke German maybe?...but who's got the time? there's still so much more amazing German Electronica/house/trance/techno music that I haven't heard yet. hahhaa)

I digress...
I got tables this year. After 15 years, I got tables because There's so much awesome German stuff that nobody in Minnesota ever plays....SO....? "I'm playing it."

My problem is that I'm a mathematic disgrace, I can't barely fathom some of the most fundamental equations and formulas that most folks master before leaving Kindergarten. My grasp of spinning records is entirely emotional and maybe some conscious understanding of "beat" stemming from 15 years of /Clubbing/house parties dancing like a dervish with my own red shoes until my feet are so calloused and numb, I could probably dance across hot coals without even noticing.

Sorry I'm rambling on here....I wanted to Hear more about your Kraut mixing and pass along some of my Kompact experience....

I don't know how familiar you are with the Early Eighties Industrial stuff...but I've found it practically melts in and out of regular house music but that it in fact really is the foundation for most modern German Techno....

(My favorite 80's song to transition with is "ISOLATION" (the Joy Division cover by "DESSAU"...)
check it out...you'll see what I'm sprayin' down here.

Hope all remain well for you lad,

Cheers you hot little Scottish Bastard!

Respectfully,

ImattV
