I don't know what to think of The Mars Volta. Are they really something worthwhile or just affecting Prog Rock clichés? I will always like Cedric's stream-of-consciousness lyrics and Omar's hair though.

Time to listen more.

You know...it makes me think...OK, if Geddy Lee had a kid and that kid had a band....

I like it...it's like Rush 2004.

(I hope I haven't offended John. LOL)

I picked up their album as well. I'll let you know my overblown opinion later. :-)

Oh, sweetie. The album is pretty good. Never go see them live, though. Well, unless you like jam bands. Two hours. Five songs. Lots of Led Zeppelin poses and leaps.

the only song i really paid any attention to was "Televators"...but i still haven't gotten a chance to listen to more of their material and form a valid opinion on them.

Worst band on earth... oh wait... that's Muse... Anyway... they're second worst.

I don't know enough of their oeuvre to have an opinion yet, but the stuff I have heard didn't exactly compel me to rush right out and hear more...

I love that album -- it's so spacey and crazy and speedy. It's like the aural version of Philip K. Dick's A Scanner Darkly. It's about time music started getting more gaudy and eccentric again...

I am all about the gaudy and eccentric. The comparison to A Scanner Darkly is perfect.

I was actually reading some scripts written as parts in the Aliens trilogy like a big geek. Anyhow, the music went perfectly. Well at least I was having fun.

To me the best parts are still the lyrics though. So spacy.

My brother recommended them to me. What's a good song to download? I listened to a couple that I snagged, and they didn't really grab me.

I wouldn't use Rush as the multiplier there; maybe Yes or Can or Gong or someone proggier than Rush, but not Rush. I thought the recent live record was worthwhile, but the studio record is a more engaging recording.

And they're a million miles better than Sparta.
