I didn't bring my camera to Junior Boys/Manitoba show and decided to stay present and enjoy things rather than live through the lense. In retrospect it may have been more fun to bring it but whatev'. What's done is done.

Saturday I was invited up to my Aunt's seasonal trailer park for a campfire, BBQ and bingo. It was really nice to sit around the fire, drink some beers and play guitar. I hadn't seen my cousin Sherry since I'd returned from the UK which was nice. What was weird is that she was there drinking, smoking and lighting up her joints with her boyfriend ight in front of my Aunt, Uncle, Mom, Brother and myself. It's not news that she is a big chronic but totally weird watching her and Don just roll joints like it was no big deal. We all turned a blind eye and had fun anyhow.

Bingo is weird. Or more so I find gambling in general just weirds me out. I feel the need to focus less on the game and more on the behaviours people around me are displaying. All sorts of superstitious behaviours like playing your dabber cap not directly down but on it's top such that "the money can get out". My aunt, whom I can only describe as the most fastidious of accountants, has a collection of beenie babies for good luck. Throughout the day I wondered if I felt I wouldn't fit in anymore. But roots are roots really.

Some back-story. When I was younger and my parents had just split up much of the time my eldest Aunt and Uncle took care of my brother and I while my Mom worked the ICU here in Hamilton and at the Toronto General. It was with them that I got introduced to a whole plethora of pop culture that maybe with my Mom and her more granola and capital-C Cultural tendencies I would not have had. Stuff like the WWF and 80s horror movies with my Uncle Vic. Also with them I learnt what alcoholism can do to you and your family. Both my Aunt and Uncle for a time were at last mildly alcoholic. It was part of the culture of the company they kept however and when circumstances changed for them in the early 90s my Uncle stopped drinking altogether. His new vices are strategy videogames and diet cola for which I am so proud of him.

Anyhow, it was great to spend some time with family despite my cousin's overt dope smoking. Next weekend is pride for which I hope my cold has cleared up.

Sounds like there's a lot of differences between your mom and (maternal?) aunt and uncle. I'd love to see what kind of differences there will be between my sister and I, if we both end up having kids. I'll so be the fun one ;D
My cousins also had very different upbringings from us. My dad was the youngest sibling, and learned a lot about what he didn't like watching my cousins' upbringings. That, and my mom is way cooler than most of her in-laws *grin*
Major kudos to your uncle! I've had a couple relatives who've had to quit drinking, and it's so good for everyone involved. And yay for videogames too :D

I don't know how some people manage to play bingo and cards at the same time. But I went twice and saw that. Holy Cow !
