[livejournal.com profile] nfotxn» Is there nothing sexier than a cowboy poet?
[livejournal.com profile] dizzibear» Hmm. I would have to say a farmhand masseur.

A bit on a Cowboy Poet commentry on our upcomming Federal Election today on Sounds like Canada.
Producer Tod Maffin has been travelling the country with the CBC's independent election bus. While in Pincher Creek, Alta. Tod met up with a group of cowboy poets who sat down with him to talk about the election and their artistry. Their conversation - and poems - on Sounds Like Canada.
I am absolutely smitten with the idea of a ruff and tumble cowboy reciting poetry full of common sense, real life experience and rough eloquence. Of course all their voices were gruff and drop dead sexy but the content still very smart and not a hint of religious fundamentalism. Oh my jaded heart, be still once more!

A few new records are kicking my ass. !!! [pronounced "chick, chick, chick"] "Louden Up Now" has the band really running at full steam. Equal parts electronic jam band and 80s new wave/punk outfit. Like a highly stylized New Deal. The Out Hud/!!! split EP was kinda disappointing but "Me And Guiliani Down By The School Yard (A True Story)" was fantastique. I recomend this record for all your dancing, working out and partying needs this summer. I am totally stealing the porta electric bass they use all the time. It is so fucking funky and fresh to my ears.

Feist also has a solo record "Let it Die" now. She's ex-By Divine Right, Broken Social Scene and The Tragically Hip at one point I believe. This is the polar opposite of !!! but just oh-so-pretty. Olden Tymes Jazz Flousie comme Björk lyricism against lots of cute yet whole some textures makes for great music after dark. Dulcimers, airy piano landscapes, organs, vibes and percolating claps and acoustic guitars. Play it real low while you enjoy your patio on a warm evening with some flickering tea lights and good company.

I absolutely love the Feist record. I have listened to it on so many nights spent enjoying the cool air on the fringe of the city. I am so glad to hear that I am not enjoying it alone.

I saw her in concert in Toronto a couple weeks ago and she totally blew me away.

I bet she was fantastic. Unfortunately, she hates the US. One of her tour dates says she is opening for the Kings of Convenience. That would be an amazing show, but there is no way I could make it to Amsterdam with such short notice.

According the the stickers they put on their records that is appropriate too. It's basically any explitive repeated three times. So "shit shit shit!" works too. As demonstrated on the new record.

I have to sit and listen to the new "!!!". Nothing I've heard so far has really got my attention yet.

Their 2-song deal with "Me And Giuliani..." was one of the few vinyls I bought last year... then I found it on CD anyway.

Hmm, it's not a sit and listen record. It's a move and listen record, definitely.

Yeah, I bought my first !!! stuff from Warpmart when I was in Inverness. I had my stuff within 36hrs. My god if there were online postal order stores like that here...
