The Trews - Tired of Waiting.

This is probably my favourite all-indierock-boy-summer-fun-band of 2004. I hope they have some staying power because they are fighting the good fight and using the various non-profit and federal programs for Canadian artists in place to produce their records and videos. A song that mostly just jams out and ad libs like this one is perfect as the last days of summer begin to stretch out.

There's also lots of nice photography of non-CN Tower, Skydome or OCAD building Toronto which is neat. The Queen Car and Gardiner Expressway never looked so appealing. And it looks like the band was recorded in the CBC Radio studios, however I could easily be wrong. Go tax dollars!

I assume you've heard Fleeting Trust and Every Inambition by now?

Argh. You got me all excited for a moment there. I thought that your song might be a cover of a song by my favorite Canadian band. Sadly, no.

Nomeansno - Tired of Waiting.

I thought it might be a cover of a song by my favorite British band. This was worth it just to get to see Toronto.

You should hear Nomeansno vs Yes by Mochipet.

Dude, in my country it was the number #1 rock single pretty much all summer. It was hard to miss ;)

Big Wreck's first album flat out rocks. "That Song" is easily my all time favourite of theirs. Ian Thornley's solo effort isn't too bad either.

I guess I'm not entitled to feel homesick for Toronto, but fuck it--nobody can stop me. It was a cool this morning in Atlanta, and before we took off for school my daughter and I shared a moment of aching and resolved for the hundredth time that we are moving back. I need to get some French lessons.

I think if I were to film everything slowly like that I would probably have people interact with the speeding environment in the background a little bit. Otherwise it would be much easier to chroma key the normal speed actor on to the pre-recorded footage. But I mean from the standpoint of crafting a film that would be much cooler.

I really love this band. Could you tell that Gordie Johnson from Big Sugar produced them? Somebody pointed that out to me and I was like "duh!"

This is actually the 2nd single from the record. Not Ready To Go was the first. It is also rather great.

Yay me to spawn some controversy. I think I'm the only one who thinks their first two songs are... repetitive. To the point of dislike.

I'm all for Canadian bands and indie efforts to soar, but I don't think I see what's special about this band. Maybe if I heard the rest of the album, I'd have a different opinion, but Not Ready To Go and Tired Of Waiting fall into an extreme overuse of their chorus to lengthen their songs for radioplay. I'm also not a fan of a chorus that uses the title of the song repeated 4 times. It feels like they ran out of creativity and content.
