Top 6 Favourite Techno Record Labels Right Now
  1. Warp
  2. Ghostly International
  3. Gooom
  4. Kompakt
  5. Schematic
  6. KIN
Despite the Warp back-lash that the dilatants, aesthetes and poseurs are imposing this label still produces some fantastic output. The !!! LP, Jimmy Edgar, Millanese. Not to mention home of Autechre, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Squarepusher, Broadcast, Brothomstates... need I go on? It's just totally silly to stop liking a label because they provide lots of people with great music.

Ghostly/Spectral continues to put out really solid dance singles. As for their artists only Dabrye has really produced an LP I really liked. The Dykehouse record is great except for his voice. Can we sing in tune? I don't care if it's for effect, it sounds bad on top of an otherwise awesome record.

Gooom is amazing. Anything that M83 makes floods my lobes with serotonin. Also Abstrakt Keal Agram is one to look at. Especially his more hip-hop oriented work.

Kompakt is breathing life into techno music. You need a copy of "Here Comes Love" by Superpitcher. You just do.

I love Schematic because you can sometimes find their artists posting on Slashdot. And Otto Von Schirach is a hoot.

So Kin only has one record. It's a really good one.

Essentially speaking if you are to buy only one techno record this year it should be this one.

Thanks for the insight Brodie.

Here's my top ten list of music videos today.

1.) http://www.ksjs.org/media/townsen.html

2-9 seemed pointless after that one.

I can't tell if it's parody or not.

I've been keeping an eye out for the Kompakt 100 CD. That cover of "Hot Love" gives me jolly. And I've also been looking for the Superpitcher album too. I may as well just special order them both.

If you are careful you can probably get those records cheaper online anyhow.

Warp

is never out of style.

If I had any doubts, which I didn't, Two Lone Swordsmen's Double Gone Chapel would have erased them this year.

Two Lone Swordsmen have never really turned my crank anyhow.

I find them much more accessible and diverse than Autechre or Aphex Twin. TLS always keep something of a groove going at least.

Plaid is another favorite of mine on that label, and for the same reason.

I miss Red Snapper too...

Warp sent us an Autechre double album with record 1 x2 and no record 2...after complaining, they sent us the correct record 1 & 2 without requiring the 1 & 1 fiasco be returned...now I have 3 copies of record 1...I don't want to simply toss the extras, nor do I want to give them away, as it would be unfair to the 2 recipients to be deprived of record 2...what to do?
