I finally saw 24 Hour Party People which for the last two years has occupied about spot #7 on my "Why Haven't I Seen This?" list. It solidifies Steve Coogan in my mind as the best British comedic twat. Of course we're subjected to Steve Coogan playing his fictional character Alan Partridge playing Tony Wilson in a magically real biographical/historical dramatic comedy. The concept is rather heady but works well enough. Even though my brother, whom is not particularly bad at the history of modern music, was left without a clue at a few points. Of course these sorts of concepts are viable in our culture today because there is so much media and meta-information surrounding us. That before we see a biography we can be at least informed enough to have a clue. Even when conceptual twists and turns of character, tense and juxtaposition are thrown at us such as in this film. It's a bit of a one-trick pony and reminiscent of Mathew Broderick style address-the-audience quips. Which given the timeframe of the film is almost appropriate. Even still the film is mainly recalling history so direct narration is useful and delivered creatively.

I'm not a big fan of quantified ratings for anything. But I feel I need to qualify the movie as "rather great". Assign a number to that quality at your own discretion.

Apparently post modern is out. Pre-Columbian is the new trend.

Yeah isn't it an amazing movie and I love all the music - actually I was a HUGE fan of the Manchester scene with Stone Roses, Charltans, and the Happy Mondays as a few of my favorites.

I wanted more New Order, though...

Anyway, I have some nice memories from the premiere at Cannes. Surreal party. Limo's with fat bastards in tux and starlets who might have been at some porn... Laurant Garnier was DJ-ing. That was the cool part.

I don't want to be a total arse, but isn't it Alan Partridge?

Or am I just confused?

Alan Partridge and Spaced are currently at the top of my "must see when it's in NTSC" list. Coogan slew me in 24HPP.

Whoops! My Mistake. It IS Alan Partridge. There was a dodgy review on IMDB that I figured was correct and I was wrong. Thanks!

Isn't it a great film?
I dig it cause it's like my teen years flashing in front of me musically and I get to see what was behind all that music I love(d).
