Living At Home In Winter
Dec. 23rd, 2004 04:50 amToday started with picking up an extra shift at work. Not only is it extra money but brownie points with the boss as well. It went quickly as I got to work with one of the girls who is just as geeky and culturally literate in the same period as me. Check-out 4 was a festive blur of Short Circuit references and Family Guy quotes.
Afterwards Brendan's bro threw a show at the QQ Tearoom tonight that was pretty good. The band I am practising with played without me and rocked out a pretty hard set. The whole time I moshed thinking what fun it would be to slather my disco pink bass underneath. All in due time. We're all working stiffs so it's kinda hard to find the time between the five of us.
Alternating between the QQ for teh r0ck and the Snoot for pints was a good compromise for an all ages show. Although it was way weird to hang out with High School kids again. I saw my cousin Arkya for the first time since she returned from assignment modelling in Brazil.
On the way home the snow was still coming down hard and the roads were largely unplowed. I got to run out of Jen's van and push a Firebird up a hill on an overpass. It was an overwhelming feeling of Canadian-ness that flushed through me given that I was in Inverness this time last year. I think winter in Ontario is pretty great despite the many draw backs. Probably only because it's what I've grown up with.
