nfotxn: (I'm only dancing! It turns me on.)

The well studied and astitute readers of my blog may remember a dance party that co-incided with the marriage of my long time friend Martin to his now wife Lindsey. Yesterday at work [livejournal.com profile] etherlad asked me to be best man at his wedding to [livejournal.com profile] sassy_fae. Of course I accepted, like duh. Ian was actually the first person I ever came out to. The first in a long time of "so what?" reactions.

This will be my first Livejournal wedding, omgwtfbbq! The wedding will be blogged, I'm sure.

I think what's interesting about this whole thing of being involved in weddings and being legally allowed to have one to the partner of MY choice, is how it really makes me consider the possibility. Rather than be flippant and queer activist eschewing the whole institution as corrupt. Not that I think marriage is an entirely holy and great thing. In many chruches it is a very strong method of control. However it is our right and freedom as free individuals to choose what we wish to be involved in.

My New Years was low-key and personal with some friends in Kitchener. We watched [livejournal.com profile] umkinda's DVD, which was a big hit. Thanks Vin!! And then rung in the new year with the TV toasting Sprite mixed with cheap red wine. The corkscrew broke just before the crack of midnight. I think perhaps if I were supersticious the red champagne would be a bad omen. However i'm not and it was also surprisingly alright tasting however mostly symbolic.

Woke up early, beat the crowd to the greasy spoon and drove back to Hamilton.

This is where I say something profound and implicitly foreshadowing about 2005. However this will invariably prove to be false and perhaps even a bit humiliating to reflect upon in coming years. Of course I'm excited about the new year and enjoy the nice roundness of the number. 2004 was rigid and dirty like an old dump truck however I find 2005 so round and spacey. For instance post-apoloclyptic movies would take place in war-torn 2004 after the rise of the artificially intelligent brain exploding robot insects. But in 2005 we drive hover cars, enjoy our self-sufficient solar powered sea condos and discover an intelligent nation of bronze age petrodactyls on Europa.

THE FUTURE IS NOW! Now! now! now!

And guess who ended up being the other couple at the party we went to last night, the day Ian asks you to be best man? Lindsey and Martin :D Lindsey is going to school with my friend, the hostess of the festivities. Surreal! If I were superstitious, it would be a good omen ;)

I'm glad you liked the DVD -- I'm doing everything in my power to make the third the best of the series, for sho. I agree with you about this 2005 thing... it's inviting and round, very friendly. 2004 seemed like you were caught in right angles and rules. Let's hear it for 2005! Yayers!

Bill (BitterLawnGnome) referred me to you due to your (possible) knowledge of a new Boards of Canada album.
*eg* I'd do anything for some new BOC.

I believe [livejournal.com profile] diesel_pioneer was joking about how the re-release of Music Has A Right [...] might as well be a new record. Because Geogaddi was such a similar record.

But if you dig that retro sound there are a buttloads of bands that sound just like them I could point you towards. Double plus good is that there are many inspired bands that sound better too :)
