Not totally straight-laced
Apr. 14th, 2005 04:16 amDrew Daniel interviews Sean Booth of Autechre.
I'd always wondered why people in the UK roll joints with tobacco. Which is, btw, like totally nasty.

Date: 2005-04-14 11:20 am (UTC)I read that the other day, and when he was asked about artists who are influenced/inspired by autechre (Radiohead was the example drew offered), he said something along the lines of"Let me put it this way, I'd rather listen to Radiohead than Funkstörung, any day."
can't remember the exact wording... but it made my day.

Date: 2005-04-14 12:03 pm (UTC)Dunno why he's slagging off Funkstörung really though. I mean other than the fact that their last record kinda sucked. The Anticon-style rappers + grain delay formula got tired real quick.

Date: 2005-04-14 01:43 pm (UTC)I dunno why he singled out Funkstörung in particular, but some of their earlier material is ridiculously similar to Anvil Vapre. I think it's funny cause it'll no doubt piss off some of the IDM fanboys who were anti-Radiohead since Autechre declined to tour with them back in 2000.. or something.

Date: 2005-04-14 12:58 pm (UTC)Interviews with musicians always feel pointless to me:
The standard interview dynamic is to draw out the musican's or artist's personality and to get them to reveal themselves-- but it seems like that might get in the way of people experiencing your art.
Autechre: It might. I don't know if it would or wouldn't.
A whole lot of nothing in that interview. I think I'm just missing the point, but the whole thing felt like a silly exercise of deconstructionism.
