Drew Daniel interviews Sean Booth of Autechre.

I'd always wondered why people in the UK roll joints with tobacco. Which is, btw, like totally nasty.

oh my god, they edited out the best bit, the bastards!

I read that the other day, and when he was asked about artists who are influenced/inspired by autechre (Radiohead was the example drew offered), he said something along the lines of"Let me put it this way, I'd rather listen to Radiohead than Funkstörung, any day."

can't remember the exact wording... but it made my day.

doh, it wasn't the pitchfork interview, it was the playlouder.com one where he said that.

oh how stupid I feel now.

Haha, he's such a surly bastard in that interview and seemed like really polite in the PFM one. Funny.

Dunno why he's slagging off Funkstörung really though. I mean other than the fact that their last record kinda sucked. The Anticon-style rappers + grain delay formula got tired real quick.

I think it's cause the pitchfork one is with another electronic musician who's more likely to 'get' it, as opposed to journalists who I assume by now have gotten to him rather.

I dunno why he singled out Funkstörung in particular, but some of their earlier material is ridiculously similar to Anvil Vapre. I think it's funny cause it'll no doubt piss off some of the IDM fanboys who were anti-Radiohead since Autechre declined to tour with them back in 2000.. or something.

Ha, I totally harshed on Kid A for being an Autechre deadringer when it first came out. Then I remembered that I like Radiohead and listened to the record.

haha, I felt hard done by when it came out cause that autumn was spent at a school I hated, and it wasn't as wallow-conducive as their other albums.

Really? I totally wallowed to Kid A! Motion Picture Soundtrack is over the top and great for planning your own suicide and subsequent resurrection.

Spliffs are especially bad with the stuff they get over here. However, in my Santa Fe days (where the weed is a beautiful thing to behold) it was the only thing I could smoke because a) it didn't taste too bad with the really good stuff and b) it didn't make me a lurching groaning zombie for 4 hours.

Interviews with musicians always feel pointless to me:

The standard interview dynamic is to draw out the musican's or artist's personality and to get them to reveal themselves-- but it seems like that might get in the way of people experiencing your art.

Autechre: It might. I don't know if it would or wouldn't.

A whole lot of nothing in that interview. I think I'm just missing the point, but the whole thing felt like a silly exercise of deconstructionism.

Truedat about being a total zombie. Here in Canadaland we usually just share to moderate consumption.

I forget all about joints with tobacco when I'm in the US. Smoke 'em all the time in Amsterdam and love them. For just the reason he said in the interview... It's more mellow and you don't get totally wasted from smoking a joint. With good tobacco, it's not nasty at all. I show you.

Oh I've totally tried it before. I dunno about it being more mellow 'cause I did a lot more drinking there though...

Who knew Drew was a Melvins fan? Kinda makes sense though...

Don't ask me why, but my friends call them "dutchies." I don't smoke either, so IMO they're definitely nasty.
