This Week's Goal: Avoid getting into confrontational discussions about politics in the checkout lane. Given the big Mormon convention today this may be difficult. Somehow their slogan "Knowing the Bible The Way It Was Truly Written" came up. How fucking presumptuous is that? Yup, "Mormonism: We've Got The Motherfuckin' Caramilk Secret!"

Dude got downright offended that I'd, you know, possibly question the all encompassing truth of his faith. I mean, shit, are there that many weak and wounded people in this world that they require catch-all solutions to belief? That's just lazy and sad. Sympathetic sad for the emotionally wounded people but not for the lazy bit, that is still just lazy. This is complex writing here, two terms and two opinions. Like math really but without any proof at all.

Now a little drama to distract you from that turd of a complete thought. Be gone! Gone!

Is this Mormon convention in Toronto this weekend? I saw a ton of people with nametags but I never could get a close enough look to see what they said.

As for the Mormon worldview: I remember having talking to a tourist about the native site excavation I was involved in and she said, "Wow, I'm so impressed - it looks just like it said it would in the Book of Mormon". Our conversation went downhill from there.

That would explain why none of them were hanging out in bars, then :-)

Some of them were at the bars... Remington's was offering them free soft drinks. And I picked one up at O'Grady's on Friday night.

It's great when you already know that someone *won't* be too drunk to get it up. ;0)

It's the stoopid underwear they have to wear. Make's them iritable.

Oh, and their bullshit racist sexist belief system.

I never knew anything much about Mormons until I started getting to know the guy that is now my best friend. He is Mormon, and gay - and yes, the irony isn't lost on him, but he struggles to maintain both and has reached a balance thanks to a Bishop that is willing to look the other way. No matter what you think of Mormons in general, they do the best job, in general, of practicing what they believe. They take care of each other and provide a supportive environment through good times and bad unlike any other religion I've seen. If God would just reveal social justice to the Revelator in a more timely fashion...

Actually my experience with Mormons has been much the same. It's just the lack of tolerance that seems rather off kilter with their otherwise altruistic pursuits.
