It's 19C° and free of humidity tonight. I'm going out for $2.50 domestic bottles and have a day off tomorrow.

I made my journal pretty today though. And thought about how a bear hook-up/flirting site based on jabber and wordpress could totally outclass the existing crap without spending much money.

Somebody on lj_nifty posted about porting the famous Wordpress theme Kubrick to LJ's S2. So I just followed their instructions and made some minor changes. It still kinda sucks. The LJ style system is so utterly convoluted and lame.

I am actually hating this style a bit. One of these days I will just port the template I had for my way-old blog to CSS and call it good science.

Development cost, silly! The software is already written, only needs a front end. And also having a stated protocol (jabber) over http would make messaging much more reliable than the tinfoil and duct tape solution of http headers and php/mysql that most of the sites use. I'd add wordpress for blogging because as you can see from the observations of Joe Clark all these hook-up sites are dying to have blogs. It's a clear emergent behaviour. So the idea would be blog + IM site for meeting people. Kinda like LJ but more overtly about booty.

It was just an idea that passed through my head though. Don't have the resources to do it myself.

What resources do you need? Are you talking more about the time to code the front end, or the webspace to do it? I'm about to get a shared server package that is going to give me a lot of domains and a LOT of bandwidth. Of course, there is the risk of CPU overload on a large database driven site, but if you wanted control of a domain to play with, or to collaborate together, I'd be interested!
