This morning was my first shift working my new job at the Library in Special Collections. There is a lot to absorb given the hugeness of the collection and various systems of organization from Dewey to a few others I can't remember (Murray?) and one truly arcane system employed by the Canadian Federal Government alone. But I've already learnt lots about archival and got a grasp of how vast the central archives are.

I've also been informed I'm starting a special project on Friday that involves some digital cataloguing. That probably means data entry.. quelle excitement. Now I have to go to my other job at Local Unionized Grocery Franchise. I sure hope I start seeing the mad Queen Elizabeth's soon. Perhaps in reverie when and if I ever sleep again.

The digital cataloguing sounds like it could be fun. Are you using a preexisting system or do you have a hand in its creation?

Special Collections! One of the most enjoyable jobs I had was an old workstudy job in the Special Collections library at Dartmouth College - college archives, rare books, manuscripts and papers of Very Important People (well, someone thought they were Very Important, anyway). Maybe, if I'm very lucky, I'll get to read of your adventures in the stacks at your new job. Congratulations!

I'm hugely jealous of you. I love libraries.
