Desolation Row (F), originally uploaded by CantikFotos.

From BoingBoing:

Mark Frauenfelder: Myst co-creator Robyn Miller pointed me to this photo of a "crumbling Taiwanese retro-fantasy-space-apartment-thing." It's no wonder the hauntingly beautiful photo appeals to him —— it looks like a screen shot of some long lost version of Myst!

As best as I've been able to uncover, this abandoned structure was built as a hotel-spa... a place for vacationing Taiwanese to escape from the rat race of Taipei! One could relax in one of its two delightfully large pools or simply lay back in plush comfort, gazing out a picture window at an endless sea!

There are some colour shots hideously deranged by tacky HDR processing here.

Isn't it? Some of the best images I've seen on Flickr in a while.

i had this BIG discussion about HDR after the movie I saw the other night. How technology, or a specific techinique, gets confused with actual good work.

Pity how it all gets confused.

Aside from all that, this photo is glorius.

I love that it's a real image. Like to know that there are post-apocolyptic sci-fi landscapes existing already on planet earth. So cool.

Absolutely, there are lots of photographers who still forget to play the basics. I live by the garbage in/garbage out philosophy. If you take poo photos ain't no photoshop filter gonna make it interesting.

HDR is the Kai's Photo Tools of the 00s. I shun it.

I recall seeing these as a kid in Taiwan. I think they are near a beach in Keelung (northern coast of Taiwan). I always wanted to see what they looked like inside.

HAWT DIGGITY!
