Being a shift working fool I often wish my Friday's were once again a cause for celebration. However these days they come with two long shifts at both jobs followed but exceptionally fun but hard to cope with cultural events one week a month in the form of the James St. North Art Crawl. This means my day at work starts at 1PM until 11PM followed by obligatory art partying until the wee hours of the morning. Only to have to wake up Saturday and work once again.

I got a job opportunity to work at the library in a clerical position for 2x what I make now during regular business hours. Leaving me time to work with H Magazine and the band and so forth and so on.

It's been 2 years in the moderately paid time consuming rut I'm in right now. Time to re-configure and get what I want. Which is normal hours, the same money (or more!) and the flexibility to branch out into the stuff I have on my doorstep but no time for lately.

My present manager made me aware of the position because of a few reasons. First of all it's an internal hire at this phase which limits my competition. Secondly it's a temp position from which I can return to my present position. So it's just a cash and experience infusion. Also because most of the people working the at the same experience as me have limited hours as well (kids, commuting, chronic illness [one co-worker is on dialysis for instance]) it's likely it'll get further culled competition wise.

So it's not a sure thing but this time I'm a definite shoe-in. In general I'm well liked at the library and it's sorta well known that I'm functioning well below my potential by the people doing the hiring.

Soooo.. after you've skipped all that long winded shit I'll say this: I can be realistically optimistic about my chances.

Yeah having a proper weekend is like a desirable status symbol these days. It's like "You work 9-5 weekdays!? That's so cool!".
