I bought this tub of margarine on the name alone.

I bought that too. It helped me remember why butter is better than margarine.

Yeah even state-of-the-art margarine still sucks.

Sounds like a gimmicky rip off of "I can't believe it's not butter!" (Which, incidently, must always be said with a fake French accent.)

That's pretty much it. PC/Loblaws is the largest retailer of groceries in Canada and has made a business of knocking off national brands. What makes this particular product funny is that "Memories Of.." is their line of sauces and marinades ie. Memories of Seoul Korean BBQ Sauce. So in context of their branding and marketing I think it's cute and original.

Yeah

PC has some odd, roundabout ways of saying "This Product Is The PC Version Of That Product".

For example, I own a canister of The Great Canadian Coffee. Hmm, wonder what that could be?

Yeah their Tim Hortons knock-off coffee is seriously hard to decipher unless you stand there and squint.

I don't understand why people use margarine. I understand why they used to use it, when everybody thought that all fats were the worst thing a person could eat, but now that the circle is complete and margarine and trans fats are the real bad guys...why?

I think it's a money thing still. Butter is relatively expensive per unit over edible oils.

I still prefer butter without a doubt but I like to experiment with new products.

Non-hydrogenated margarines have lower levels of trans-fatty acids that the nickel-hydrogen based margarines. The solution is to just ditch them altogether!

Existential dairy products -- I dig it.

Ugh. Loblaws. When I was in grad school at McMaster (in the ancient 1980s), I'd shope there to make the bursary stretch. They had this terrible--though cheap--generic line. Black text on a plain yellow box. Things like "Biscuits" and "Pasta and Cheese Product Meal" and "Morning Cereal" for actual product names. We used to joke that they should sell something called "Cat Food (For Humans)". Blech.

Still have it

The line is called "No Name". And yes, I buy that stuff if it's something that I don't give a poop about the quality thereof. There are some things that are simply impossible to screw up.

Bwaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

LOVES it!!!!

LOL I actually thought that was some sort of parody at first glance.

I don't think I've ever actually seen that product in a Loblaw's store. But then, I'm so cheap, I always buy my "edible oils" at the very, very low end, so I guess I've missed the "Loblaw premium house brand" entry in this grocery category.

Thanks for posting this. It is funny to see Loblaw parodying themselves.

It makes it sound like we should be grieving butter's passing.
